There are many unique enemies and bosses inAvowed, each with their own specialized set of skills and abilities that can catch you off guard if you don’t know what to expect. It’s likely you’ve stumbled across some tough enemies while exploring the Living Lands, and whether it’s because you’re under-prepared, didn’t know the enemy’s weaknesses or strengths, or were swarmed by hordes of surrounding minions, no enemy inAvowedcan’t be overcome eventually without the proper preparation.
[Warning: The following article contains spoilers for Avowed.]

Some of the most difficult enemies come from each major region, from Dawnshore to Galawain’s Tusks, and you’ll want to avoid going in blind. If you struggle with any of these enemies, consider switching up your build and taking advantage ofAvowed’s unique weaponsor armor in your inventory. It pays to know your enemies inAvowed, and some of the hardest enemies might be a bit easier with a better idea of what to expect.
10Thalla The Taskmaster Is One Of The First Tough Bosses
Leader Of The Sparrowhawks In Paradis
One of the first difficult bosses you’ll encounter in Dawnshore goes by the nameThalla the Taskmaster. He can be tough, especially if you walked down the alley unsuspectingly, only to realize you’d have to face off against him and his goonsbeforeyou could stock up on health potions. Thalla has a few serious AoE (area of effect) attacks with a pretty wide range, so you’ll be dodging out of the way a lot.
There are no enemies, bosses, or bounty targets that are truly insurmountable inAvowed, and you simply need to level up and upgrade your gear before taking on higher-leveled opponents to even the playing field.

It’s best to take out his goons, if possible, beforeThalla makes it down the alleyway, just to give yourself some breathing room. Thalla isn’t the hardest boss in the game, but he certainly isone of the hardest bosses you’ll face early on. He can be frozen up pretty easily, and the vines and brambles are useful for slowing him down.
9Iscern The Dreamscourged Ogre Can Poison You Easily
He Guards The Emerald Stair Starmetal Fragment
Iscern can be found in the Damp Burrow in Emerald Stair, located in the Rolling Crags region just outside the party camp. He’s in a little cave nearby with several spider enemies guarding theStarmetal Fragment for Emerald Stair. Iscern is difficult mainly due tohis ridiculous poisonous ranged shotthat quickly accumulates poison, not to mention all the Woodcrawler spiders nearby attacking you with poison.
Avowed: 10 Best Unique Weapons For Rangers
The 10 best unique weapons in Avowed for Rangers include Sheathed in Summer, Moonstrike, Last Light of Day, and the Umbral Needle.
You’ll want to have some poison remedies handy, such as Springberries, and you should definitely dodge out of range of his stomp attack. The stomp has a massive AoE and will leave very little wiggle room in the tiny cave area where you fight him, sotry not to get cornered.

8Old Nuna, Bear Menace Of The Grotto Can Pose As a Serious Challenge
Don’t Poke The Bear
Old Nuna is one of a handful ofextremely tough bear bossesthat will be a serious challenge if you aren’t adequately equipped or are under-leveled. Old Nuna and the horde of spore enemies in the cave are all weak to Fire damage, and if you go in here thinking the bounty target will be a quick and easy fight, you’ve got another thing coming. Old Nuna is located in a cave in the Ancient Grotto just west of the Naku Tedek Grounds.
It will be possible toget a decent sneak attack in before Old Nuna wakes up,but you’ll need to plan your strike without being spotted by one of the spore enemies. You’ll be in for a rough one if you try this too early, and Octav the Firebrand drops theSheathed in Summerdagger, an excellent Fire damage dealer to pick up before returning to take down Old Nuna.

7Moi Piki The Earth Blight Is A Challenging Bounty Target
This Blight Has A Thing For Beetles
Moi Piki is an earth blight and one of the many bounty targets in Shatterscarp. Moi Piki is difficult for various reasons, but primarily because of the giant elder Adra beetles it controls in the surrounding area. These bugs are everywhere and will easily swarm you if you or your companions aren’t geared up.Moi Piki is resistant to most elemental damage, and spending much time in the same place with all the beetles around will be tough.
The key here is to have your companions distract the beetles while you try to take down Moi Piki or totry to take out the beetles first before focusing everything on Moi Piki. This bounty target is near the Godless Ruins in the northeast Deadfall Highlands.

6Xaurip Chieftan Grithin Will Swarm You If You’re Not Prepared
Mind The Gap
This is yet another bounty target inAvowed, found in Shatterscarp on an extremely tall pillarin the middle of the Great Sand Sea. Chieftan Grithin is dangerous because of the terrain and location, the large number of Xaurip minions running around, plus his sweeping staff attacks that will have you dodging uncomfortably near the ledge. To reach Chieftan Grithin, you’ll need to get your parkour on and scale the mountain pillar.
Avowed: Should You Use The Starmetal For The Sword Or The Arquebus?
When you give Forgemaster Dela the Starmetal in Avowed, you may pick the Meteor Blade sword or Moonstrike arquebus, but which one is better?
Once you’re up there, you’ll be swarmed by lesser Xaurip enemiesalongside the Chief himself. There aren’t many barriers stopping you from falling off the side, so be mindful of the limits here and try not to power slide or accidentally dodge off to your death.

5Beating Ygwulf The Assassin Is Worth The Reward
A Rebel With A Cause
As you leave Dawnshore, you’ll have to choose whether tokill or spare Ygwulf, and if you want his sick threads, you’ll have to take him down.Killing Ygwulf is the only way to acquire theBlackwing Armor, which isone of the best light armor sets available in the game, especially for a stealth ranger or assassin build. Ygwulf is fast and has a lot of friends, so you’re going to get bombarded from both short and long-range in this fight.
You’ll also have the choice to convince Ygwulf to turn himself in to the authorities, but you won’t receive any significant benefits for doing so and will miss out on any associated rewards for killing/setting him free.

He’s not as challenging if you’ve leveled up and, more importantly, upgraded your gear as much as possible before advancing the main story.Killing Ygwulf will cause the rebels in Paradis to attack you sight unseen, so be prepared for more encounters on your way out of the city toward Emerald Stair.
4Sibelius The Skeleton Master Caster Can Do Brutal Frost Attacks
Guardian Of Ancient Alacrity
Sibelius is among the toughest skeleton enemies largely due to the number of skeleton fighters/priests, wraiths, and shadow summons alongside him in the chamber. You’ll run into Sibelius on your way to the Garden. He has several brutal Frost attacks that will slow you down if you can’t avoid them, including a freeze ray of sorts that deals heavy Frost accumulation and high damage.
A gang of skeleton enemies will be in the area to make things much more difficult. As with all skeleton enemies, you want to take out the priests first, as they willcontinue to heal all their allies intermittently, making it harder to take each one down. There is an excellent uniqueweapon inAvowed, theAncient Alacritybow, located in the door to the left behind Sibelius in the chamber.

3Ryngram’s Summons Can Be Devastating
Prepare For An Onslaught Of Undead
While Ryngram doesn’t fight you herself, as you make your way through the main story and reach Naku Kubel, you’ll eventually have to take on a series of summoned enemies before assembling a statue and progressing the story further. This encounter features some pretty difficult waves ofskeleton fighters, barbarians, and Greater Ash Blights, all of which make for a frustrating fight. Again, there will be skeleton priests to take out, and you’ll need to watch out for the firebombs from the blights.
Should You Spare Or Kill Ygwulf In Avowed?
As you leave Dawnshore in Avowed, you’ll run into Ygwulf, your would-be assassin when you first entered Paradis, but should you kill him or spare him?
This is an unmissable fight and will advance the main story progression, but if you’ve been skipping side quests or slacking on upgrades, you’ll probably need to backtrack and come back to this area later. If you have Power Slide or Power Jump maxed out, it’s possible totake out groups of lesser skeleton enemiesor knock them to the ground.

2You Will EventuallY Fight Captain Aelfyr, And It Won’t Be Easy
Kill Her Early For Some Fancy Gloves
Captain Aelfyr is a recurring NPC inAvowedand an Inquisitor Lodwyn loyalist that you will have to fight eventually, though she can actually be taken on very early if you decide to kill her when heading out of Emerald Stair. Whether you fight her earlier or later, she can be quite tough in both instances, but for different reasons. At the end of Emerald Stair, she has a posse of Steel Garrote soldiers and clerics who are somewhat relentless.
If you decide not to fight her at Emerald Stair, you’ll have to face her when you reach Galawain’s Tusks anyway, and she’ll be at a much higher level - though she won’t have any Steel Garrote to back her up. Either way, once you kill her, you’ll be rewarded with theDeath Knight Gloves, though you’ll be able to use them much earlier if you kill her at the end of Emerald Stair.

1Come Well Prepared For Inquisitor Lodwyn
Put An End To The Inquisition
Inquisitor Lodwyn is the final boss inAvowedandwill require you to have a very solid build, fully upgraded gear, and a good understanding of how to use your companions wisely. Lodwyn is quick and has some devastating attacks thatyou’ll need to be able to dodge away from ormitigate the damage somehow.Lodwyn is particularly difficult because she has a second phase and will deploy a second wind move after taking her down once.
Avowed: All Unique Armor Locations & Their Effects
Avowed’s unique armor, gloves and boots have special abilities and are located across Dawnshore, Emerald Stair, Shatterscarp, and Galawain’s Tusks.
Lodwyn will throw anything and everything at you, and I would highly recommend investing in elemental resistances. If you haven’t gotten your hands on some of the best unique weapons inAvowedyet, theright loadout could be a difference-maker with Inquisitor Lodwyn. When it comes to the hardest enemies in Avowed, none even come close to Inquisitor Lodwyn.
