The Twilight Sagafeatures many fascinating supporting and minor characters whose stories should be given more attention in the upcomingTwilightremake.Historically,Twilighthas kept the focus on Bella and Edward’s romance and the love triangle that arises with Jacob, when it would be a much richer story if it took full advantage of the supporting cast. Most of the characters inTwilightdo have full backstories explained in tie-in materials if not revealed at some point in the books themselves.

Major supporting characters, namely members of theCullen familysuch as Alice and Carlisle, are likely to get their due in theTwilightTV show rebootwhen the books already spend some time on their backstories. However,Twilightfeatures a plethora of minor characters, some of whom are essentially footnotes in the books, whose fascinating histories should also be mentionedin some form by the new show. Taking some time to delve into each character’s life story would transformTwilightinto an intriguing supernatural historical fiction story with emotional depth.

10Benjamin Of The Egyptian Coven

Originally Played By Rami Malek

Benjamin draws attention inThe Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2with one of the most dramatic and visual magical giftsand the fact that he is played by an early career Rami Malek. A lot of the vampires' specific gifts are mental abilities; Benjamin appearing so late in the story with the ability to manipulate the elements in massive displays of power is unprecedented. Additionally, the backstory of the Egyptian coven as a whole and the role Benjamin plays in it reveals something more about the power struggles ofTwilight’s vampire world.

The coven’s leader Amun made Benjamin a vampire because of the magical ability he displayed as a human, believing he might be a tool to overthrow the Volturi.Aside from the Egyptian coven thinking of themselves as rivals of the Volturi and the Romanian coven, this implies a contentious relationship between Benjamin and Amun, prompting questions about how things evolved between them into what is seen inTwilight. Benjamin also turned his childhood friend and sweetheart Tia into a vampire against Amun’s wishes; despite this, Tia also ended up joining their coven.

9Siobhan Of The Irish Coven

Originally Played By Lisa Howard

Siobhan’s tragic past and potential power could have a great effect on how women are represented inTwilightif the new show handles her story properly. Siobhan had unusual autonomy for a woman as a human, running her own business as a blacksmith in 16th-century Ireland. She was kidnapped and sexually assaulted by the vampire who turned her but was strong enough as a newborn to kill him. She later turned her mate Liam and their surrogate daughter Maggie, the latter of whom can tell if she is being lied to.

Siobhan saw Maggie’s potential to be a powerful vampire as a human. Likewise,Carlisle believes Siobhan might be able to visualize a certain outcome of events and project it into reality. After she visualizes her family safely walking away from the Volturi inBreaking Dawn, Siobhan decides to test this theory more. The Irish coven as a whole holds the potential for more emotional storylines inTwilightconcerning their different relationships, as well as the untapped power they see in one another.

8Garrett Of The Denali Coven

Originally Played By Lee Pace

Carlisle is the oldest member of the Cullen family and is implied to have met a lot of other vampires over the centuries and spent a lot of time studying and theorizing about the varying powers of vampires. Therefore, Carlisle is a narrative vehicle to bring a lot of minor characters into the story. In addition to the Irish coven,Carlisle met Garrett, a devoted Patriot, during the American Revolution.Garrett was turned on the battlefield by an unknown vampire, as vampires were taking advantage of the bloodshed to feed more frequently.

Garrett is a dynamic addition to the cast when he shows up to act as a witness on behalf of the Cullens inBreaking Dawn. He vehemently defends them to the Volturi; he also falls in love with Kate, one of the Cullens' unofficial cousins. Because of this relationship,Garrett leaves behind a solitary nomadic life and decides to live off of animal bloodwhen he leaves Forks with the rest of the Denali coven.

7Billy Black

Originally Played By Gil Birmingham

There are some moments inTwilightwhere Billy comes across as a secondary father figure to Bella, one who knows the full extent of the supernatural life she has chosen for herself. On behalf of Charlie, Billy worries about Bella joining the Cullen familybut eventually accepts that he can’t stop her and wishes her happiness anyway. To Sam and Jacob’s pack, Billy is a mentor figure who knows a lot about the history of the wolf shape-shifters in the Quileute Tribe.

How the new show handles the mythology of the werewolves will be difficult due to theTwilightQuileute controversyof the series appropriating a real culture. Nonetheless, Billy is an interesting character because he is a leader among the wolf packs even though he is not directly involved in the action. He also serves as an unofficial middleman when it comes to Charlie and what he doesn’t know about the Cullens.Exploring Billy’s character and why he makes these choices could bring more nuance toTwilight, emphasizing his real concerns about Bella’s decisions.

6Victoria Of The London Coven & James' Coven

Originally Played By Rachelle Lefevre & Bryce Dallas Howard

Victoria shows up in the first installment ofTwilightas a member of the coven also including James and Laurent. She returns inThe Twilight Saga: Eclipseto avenge the death of her mate.Yet the movies and even the books don’t do justice to Victoria’s backstoryor her possible power. InVictoria’s dark backstory beforeTwilight, she and her sister Anne belonged to an all-female coven living in London; the sisters were changed sometime in the 1500s. The Volturi eventually decided that they were guilty of attracting too much attention with their growing numbers.

10 Twilight Scenes The Animated Remake Can Do Better Than The $3.3 Billion Movie Franchise

The upcoming animated Twilight TV show has the potential to elevate and improve important moments from the Twilight books and previous movies.

The Volturi slaughtered all of Victoria’s coven except for two members. Edward believes that Victoria may have enhanced survival instincts, which would have allowed her to get away. On the other hand,Aro decided that Victoria’s former coven mate Heidi was repentant and welcomed her into the Volturi— not-so-secretly wanting to add Heidi’s gifts to his ranks. Given how important it is to the main plot that the Volturi regularly kills entire covens to recruit one gifted member, Victoria’s backstory would be very valuable to include in the new show.

5Tanya Of The Denali Coven

Originally Played By MyAnna Buring

Tanya and Siobhan are the only female characters inTwilightwho are the leaders of their respective factions.Tanya and her sisters Kate and Irina were all turned by the same vampire woman, who was executed by the Volturi for creating an immortal child. The Denali sisters' actions gave rise to the legend of succubi, beautiful women who seduced men and lured them to their deaths. However, Tanya comes across as a lonely character looking for her great love when her sisters each find theirs in theTwilightbooks.

Tanya at one point was interested in Edward, but her feelings were unreciprocated. Even if the show doesn’t get around to showing what happens to her next, there are some interesting implications in Tanya’s story being unfinished at the end. Additionally, like Garrett, Tanya is a vehicle to elaborate upon the entireDenali coven’s backstory, which includes Eleazar, a former member of the Volturi.

4Jane Of The Volturi

Originally Played By Dakota Fanning

Jane is shown to be a cruel and devoted member of Aro’s guard, with no exposition of how she became like this in the mainTwilightstory.Jane and her twin brother Alec were tormented and nearly burned to death by humansbecause of the powers they displayed. However, Aro had been following them for some time because of their potential and saved them both from execution. He turned them both into vampires and hence they became the most important members of his guard.

Jane’s power to create the illusion of excruciating pain and Alec’s to completely deprive his victims of their senses turned the tide for the Volturi. This is when they truly became the dominant force in the vampire world and other covens began to treat their word as the law. This tale of cruelty, betrayal, and narrowly escaping death makes Jane’s storyline a promising one, warranting exploration of her relationship with Aro.

3Angela Weber

Originally Played By Christian Serratos

TheTwilightnarrative largely treats Bella’s human life as inconsequential when Bella is fully prepared to give it all up to be with Edward. She is pleasantly surprised at one point in theEclipsebook by how much she can share with Angela about the conflict between Edward and Jacob (without saying that they are supernatural) and how genuinely comforting what Angela has to say is to her.Bella later makes a joke that if Angela turns out to be a witch she wouldn’t care either— but this might not be the point of the character.

By fleshing out Angela, the Twilight show can illustrate more of what Bella is giving up and create a real dilemma for her.

By fleshing out Angela, theTwilightshow can illustrate more of what Bella is giving up and create a real dilemma for her. Additionally, treating Angela as an important character even if she is not involved at all in the supernatural ongoings will add some weight to the story, showing how humanity exists in a world that includes the supernatural but that their lives are still important. The only character who comes close to doing this is Charlie, who at least has some inkling that the Cullens are not mere humans.

2Vladimir Of The Romanian Coven

Originally Played By Noel Fisher

Vladimir and his sole surviving coven mate Stefan appear inBreaking Dawnwithout care for what the Cullens might have done to incur the Volturi’s wrath. They are only eager for a chance to fight the Volturi and win with the support of the various witnesses the Cullens have recruited. As Vladimir and Stefan reveal, the Romanian coven was the ruling force in the vampire worldbefore the Volturi’s rise to power. They believe that things were better this way, in contrast to the Volturi positioning themselves as gods.

The 1 Twilight Movie Scene The TV Reboot Will Find It Almost Impossible To Beat

It is already a great challenge to adapt a movie into a television series, but the Twilight Saga has a bigger problem when it comes to 1 iconic scene.

Vladimir and Stefan’s entire coven was killed by the Volturi, and they would naturally want revenge. They represent another facet of vampire history inTwilightthat should be fully explored. Additionally, there is the lingering, enigmatic implication that Dracula may have been a part of their coven and existed in this universe, a question the show could answer once in for all.

1Esme Cullen

Originally Played By Elizabeth Reaser

Esme’s human life is changed in theTwilightmovies and is briefly summarized in the books. After her baby died,Esme tried to take her own life but was brought back from the brink of death by Carlisle. This story really needs some more exposition, as a woman who was sad enough to do this would likely have had a harder time adjusting to life as a vampire than most, let alone becoming the nurturing figure Esme does. After becoming a vampire, not only does Esme marry Carlisle but loves the rest of the Cullens as her own children.

Esme is an incredibly potent character because of how loving she becomes despite the sadness of her life. YetEsme is given the least attention of all the Cullens(except for maybe Emmett); how she thinks and what her early days as a vampire were like are definitely worthy material for the show that stands to become the most interesting version ofThe Twilight Sagayet. There are many more minor characters yet who, if given even just a sentence of exposition, would make the story even more dynamic.
