ThePower Rangersseries has been a global phenomenon for over 30 years, butsome villains were more remarkable than others. With more than 20 themed TV seasons, three theatrical releases, and countless actors who donned the famous colored suits, the Rangers have taken on countless enemies. When it comes to villains, everyPower Rangersseasonusually has a couple of big and countless monsters of the week as well as the foot soldiers.
Many of thesePower Rangersvillainsare meant to be comical, with memorable monsters of the week, like Purse Head, Pumpkin Rapper, and Shellshock, failing to make any sort of dent in the Power Rangers' armor. Others have stuck around a bit longer and posed more of a challenge on many occasions. For example, Goldar was a staple of the resident baddies but never won a major fight, and Mesogog provided some great build-up but with very little payoff. With so many villains in thePower Rangerschronology, some proved to have more bark than they had bite.

10Dark Specter
Was Supposed To Be The Strongest Villain Of All
Dark Specter wastechnically the main antagonist of the Zordon Era, even though he debuted inPower Rangersin Space. He was retroactively the real big bad inMMPR,Zeo, Turbo, andIn Spaceas the leader of the Alliance of Evil. In other words, villains like Rita, Zedd, and Divatox were all ultimately answering to Dark Specter. While he was never shown to actually fight any of the Rangers, we were expected to believe that Dark Specter was the greatest evil force in the universe.
Power Rangers’ Greatest Mystery Has Remained Unsolved For 26 Years And Might Never Be Answered
The most important Power Rangers battle happened 26 years ago, yet the show never explained the Mighty Morphin team mystery that came with it.
Some of the show’s biggest baddies, like Rita Repulsa, Lord Zedd, and Divatox, were all shown to be completely terrified of him, and it turned out his demise came at the hand of one of his own allies. He was betrayed and defeated by Astronema. This felt like a big disappointmentin light of how much hype he got as a villain throughoutIn Space.

9King Mondo
An Overall Weak Villain For The Season
King Modo was able to banish Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd from the moon. which seemed like a great start for a villain coming off of theMighty Morphinera. He developed a bit of a personal vendetta against the Zeo Rangers. With his plans often thwarted by the Earth’s defenders, he often shifted his strategies. By using Damocles’s Sword, the Machine King was hopeful he would finally win the battle.
As an antagonist, King Mondo seemed to come out of nowhere and was subsequently destroyed at the end of the season, making him one of the weaker villains all in all.

However, as proved time and time again, the Power Rangers were able to take him down. As an antagonist,King Mondo seemed to come out of nowhere and was subsequently destroyed at the end of the season, making him one of the weaker villains all in all. King Mondo’s family was not particularly interesting either, and the whole Machine Empire story never lived up to its potential. That said, King Mondo’s death would be revisited years later in the"Forever Red" crossover, when his remaining followers sought to avenge him.
8Goldar
As one of the most prolific and present of all the villains, Goldar was a big part of theMighty Morphin Power Rangersand thePower Rangers Zeoseries. As a powerful and prideful warrior, he served Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd in their many schemes to conquer Earth. He faced the Rangers many times and never really won an important fight. He had his moments of course, like fighting Jason one on one fight and trying to transport Rita’s Moon Palace to Angel Grove, but, ultimately he always failed in the end.
One could consider Goldar to be a bit of a punching bag for theMighty Morphinheroes, as well as the villains he served. He was dependable in that he would be one of the first sent down to try and win the battle, but someone more powerful would always end up trying to finish the job he started. That said,PowerRangerswouldn’t be the same without him.

7Mesogog
Great Design And Backstory But Not Many Achievements
This well-designed part human, part dinosaur hybrid creature served as the main villain inPower Rangers Dino Thunder.A result of experiments done by genius scientist, Dr. Anton Mercer, Mesogog became the doctor’s evil alter ego.His goal was to transform the world into a Jurassic hellscapeand make all humans into reptile-like creatures.
The premise was menacing, and the fact that both entities, Dr. Mercer and Mesogog, existed at the same time, added a layer of uncertainty and peril. Additionally, Dr. Mercer had ahistory with Tommy Oliver. Mesogo was strong and able to handle himself in combat, not to mention his laser vision and ability to create monsters of his own. He also had some powerful generals.

Mesogog was able to give the Rangers quite a lot of trouble and become even more dangerous when his two personalities were separated. However,he was taken down in the space of one season. In hindsight, White Ranger Trent was a much scarier villain, even though he was being brainwashed and eventually joined the team.
6Z Putty Patrollers
Expected To Be Stronger Than The Putties
The original Putties were a huge part of the early seasons, sent in droves to fight the Power Rangers, but all easily dealt with. They were the ultimate disposable drones that were mostly there to distract the heroes before the big fight. This newer version, ideated by Lord Zedd, was meant to be much stronger and more destructive than the original Putties, but, as it turned out, had one very easily recognizable flaw.
The big Z marks on the breastplates of their armor were the perfect bullseye target that was the key to defeating them.Just one kick or punch to the Z, and the gray foot soldiers were gone in a puff of smoke. This particular design issue raised quite a lot of questions, like whether they were ever able to self-destruct by accident as well. Lord Zedd should have made this design flaw in his putty patrollers a little less noticeable.

5Robo Rita
Rita Was Now Deadlier, But She Was Still Defeated
In theMighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Alwaysanniversary special, a one-off event to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the franchise, Rita Repulsa gets a sort of makeover when she takes over the body of Alpha 8. Her evil essence returns to Earth in the form of Robo Rita and manages to inflict unimaginable tragedy on the Rangers.
As shekills the Yellow Ranger, the remaining group grieves and unites to defeat this new version of their old foe. The rematch happened in Rita’s castle on the moon. While Robo Rita is able to summon the classic villains Snizzard and Minotaur, they are taken down, including with the help of the original Megazord.

Robo Rita herself took much less power to be defeated and was finally vanquished by Billy, who was blaming himself for what happened to Trini. While she didn’t stay around for too long, she managed to put into motion a chain of events that led to Trini’s daughter becoming the new Yellow Ranger.
4Divatox
Guilty Of Being A Snob
To call oneself the Intergalactic Pirate Queen of Evil indicates a healthy level of self-confidence which was true of Divatox. She craved power, riches, and fame, and would stop at nothing to get it as she traversed the universe in her Subcraft. Divatox mostly faced the Turbo Rangers, and at one point, she even got the Command Center destroyed.
That said, she never really had a major victory and was eventually redeemed. Like most of the main villains in Power Rangers, Divatox relied on her minions and even her family to do the dirty work and came close to succeeding on occasion.

But, in truePower Rangersstyle, she never achieved any real success. She was never technically killed by the Rangers but rather retreated into oblivion when all her schemes failed. By the timePower Rangers In Spacerolled around, she was “purified” by the wave of positive energy from Zordon’s shattered energy tube.
3General Venjix
A One-Off Villain For A Crossover
With the ability to blast energy rays from his arm and a lot of anger issues, General Venjix appears in the “Forever Red” crossover. He’s the leader of the Machine Empire Remnants andwants to avenge his fallen comrades, particularly King Mondo, who was killed duringPower Rangers Zeo.
This did not sit well with General Venjix, who vowed to destroy the Rangers who achieved this intergalactic feat. General Venjix planned to reactivate Serpentera, Lord Zedd’s Zord, which was hidden in the moon. As it was a special 10th-anniversary episode, General Venjix was slightly more than just a monster of the week.

That said,he and the rest of the Machine Empire Remnants ended up just being a one-hit wondercreated for that particular episode and defeated at the end of it. TheBeetleborgscostumes aside, the idea of Machine Empire Remnants trying to activate Lord Zedd’s most powerful weapon was interesting, especially because characters like Tommy and Jason were involved in the story.
2Ecliptor
Did He Deserve Redemption Too?
Created to inflict evil and stir chaos, Ecliptor showed his softer side when it came to Astronema, his sort-of adoptive daughter. He had a lot of intergalactic issues with the Red Space Ranger, Andros. But, it was exactly he who ultimately defeated him.An interesting villain, Ecliptor had a lot of layers.
This included a bitter rivalry with Darkonda and the honor of being the first evil entity to be destroyed by the Z-Wave after a fight with his nemesis, Andros. Although he was one of the more powerful warriors in the galaxy, he was able to substantially grow in size, project various kinds of beams from his person, and he was skilled with a sword.

Whether Ecliptor deserved to be redeemed by the Z-wave is open for debate, but the fact is that he was destroyed in Countdown to Destruction.
Astronema was his biggest weakness, and his obsession to keep her evil is what led to the feud with the Red Ranger. Another source of friction and one of his main foes was Darkonda. Whether Ecliptor deserved to be redeemed by the Z-wave is open for debate, but the fact is that he was destroyed in Countdown to Destruction.
1Diabolico
A Lot Of Talk, But Not Quite As Much Action
As a Demon who once ravaged the Earth, Diabolico had quite the reputation. He presented as an armored gargoyle with a very mean streak. Part of thePower Rangers Lightspeed Rescueseason, he served as the main antagonist of that class of Rangers for a while. However,he incurred quite a lot of failures and was even threatened by Queen Bansheerawho thought him undeserving of his powers. When he was defeated by the Lightspeed Solarzord, his power was indeed given to Impus, Queen Bansheera’s son.
Power Rangers’ First Evil Ranger After Tommy Was Much Cooler Than The Original Green Ranger
Might Morphin’s “Green With Evil” saw the debut of Tommy Oliver, but the early 2000s would see the introduction of an evil cooler “evil Power Ranger.”
He was one of the fewPower Rangersvillains who sort of became an ally of the Rangers and this was partly due to his innate loyalty that he felt towards his closest allies as well as to how he was treated by his Queen. As he chooses to go against Queen Bansheera, he helps the Rangers defeat her by appearing out of nowhere and dragging her into the Shadow World.
