Misty didn’t go into surgery alone. She had surgery on the same day as her other sister, 44-year-old Amanda Halterman. They had back to back surgeries performed by the same doctor.Amanda had already had bariatric surgery once, over a decade ago, but put the weight back on. Though it isn’t uncommon for a person to need revision bariatric surgery, the second surgery does come with higher risk. Luckily, both Misty and Amanda came out of surgery with flying colors. Due to recent set-backs, Amanda hasn’t lost as much weight as Misty post surgery.

When Misty first appeared on1000-lb Sisters, she weighed 240 pounds. After struggling with her weight all her life and being on diabetes medication for many years, she decided to have bariatric surgery in March 2023.Misty went from weighing 240 to weighing only 166 pounds, and was able to stop taking any of her diabetes medication. After losing 74 pounds, Misty looks like a completely different person, and losing weight has even made her look younger.

During a recent episode of the show, after a successfulweight in at the doctor’s office revealed that Misty had lost 74 pounds, she confessed that she didn’t want to lose any more weight, for fear of becoming too thin.
