Five-time host Ricky Gervais shares jokes he would have used during his monologue had he returned to host the 2025Golden Globes. Gervais will be best known to many as the creator of theBritish version ofThe Office, as well as the star in projects likeExtras,The Invention of Lying(2009), andAfter Life. The British comedian has also, however, made a name for himself as an awards show host, hosting theGolden Globesin 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016, and 2020, delivering monologues that are particularly skewering and shocking.

Though it was comedian Nikki Glaser who hosted the 2025Golden Globes,Gervaisnow shares some of what his monologue for the show might have looked like had he returned this year. In three new posts on X, formerly Twitter, Gervais shares a mock introduction to the awards show, poking fun at Justin Timberlake, Kevin Hart, and all of Hollywood. Check out Gervais' posts below:
“Hello, and welcome to the 82nd Golden Globe awards,” Gervais writes for his intro. “What a year it’s been. Hundreds of entertainers jumped at the chance to go to The Vatican to meet The Pope. Many from Hollywood. Obviously they weren’t content with only being part of the 2nd bigget pedo ring in the world…”

“Justin Timberlake was convicted of Drink Driving,” Gervais continues in his next post. “If he’d have gone to jail he’d have heard the words ‘Sexy Back’ a lot more often.”
Gervais’s third post takes aim at Kevin Hart and Diddy, and he writes: “Kevin Hart said that being at one of Diddy’s parties was uncomfortable, as he wouldn’t leave him alone. Eventually he had to shout ‘Imma Midget, not a child.”

What Gervais’ Would Have Meant For The 2025 Golden Globes
How Nikki Glaser’s Monologue Has Been Received
Glaser is well known for her presence at various celebrity roasts, and she rocketed to a new level of stardom due to her ruthless jokes at Netflix’s wildly popularThe Roast of Tom Bradythis year. The2025Golden Globesmarks Glaser’s first time hosting the awards ceremony, andthe general response to her monologue and the show in general has been very positive. Though Glaser didn’t go quite as far as Gervais has in recent years in terms of roasting those present, she does deliver some scorching jokes.
Golden Globes 2025: 8 Biggest Snubs & Surprises
The 82nd Golden Globe Awards held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on July 27, 2025, had several major surprises and a few clear snubs.
Gervais has become the stuff of Golden Globes legend, andsome of his hosting gigs are among the show’s most infamous. During his 2020 hosting of the show, Gervais' jokes elicited just as many gasps as they did laughs, and he played the entire evening with an “I don’t care” attitude, taking shots at actors like Felicity Huffman and Joe Pesci, as well as explicitly calling thecontroversial Hollywood Foreign Press Association"racist." Much of the humor from Gervais' monologue came from the fact that he made clear it would be his final time hosting.

The HFPA has long been mired in scandal, controversy, and accusations of racism, but the organization has undergone a major overhaul in recent years to combat these claims.

Will He Ever Host The Show Again?
Glaser ultimately did a great job hosting the 2025Golden Globes, andshe managed to strike a strong balance between roasting those in the room and celebrating the cinematic winsfrom the past year. Gervais' latest social media posts, however, make a strong case for his eventual return as host. Unfortunately,The Officestarhas been adamant that hisGoldenGlobeshosting days are behind him, so social media posts might be the closest audiences get to another shocking awards show monologue from him.
