TheSonic the Hedgehogmovies are an entertaining recreation of the iconic video game series, but there are certain things that seem to happen in every title. TheSonic the Hedgehoglive-action movies and TV show,Knuckles, each expand upon the franchise and the backstories of the characters brilliantly. While each installment provides a story that is both brand new and develops the one before it,it’s always fun to see consistency in the films, and it’s likely that the upcomingSonic the Hedgehog 4will continue to do this.

Of course, there are some really obvious things that audiences expect to see in every movie. Seeinghow fast Sonic the Hedgehog can run, gold rings being used as portals, and the team facing an evil villain are all standard elements of the films. However, there are certain parts of the story, themes, and gags that crop up in all theSonic the Hedgehogmovies.

7Sonic Getting A Happy Ending With His Family On Earth

Family Is The Most Important Thing

Manyparents wonder ifSonic the Hedgehogis suitable for children, especially the third installment, mainly because of Shadow’s dark backstory and the fact he can be seen brandishing a weapon at times. However, the importance of family is such a crucial message throughout all three filmsthat parents don’t need to worry. Without fail, at the end of each movie, Sonic gets a happy ending on Earth with Tom and Maddie.

Even though they don’t have a human child of their own, this doesn’t matter, and the aliens they adopt throughout the series are just as much their kids. As Sonic completes each of his cinematic adventures, his family grows stronger and stronger. While he finishes the first film with new parents,Sonic the Hedgehog 2ends with Sonic gaining siblings in both Tails and Knuckles.

Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails in Front of Movie Credits

“It seems all but certain that Sonic has a number of big screen adventures ahead of him, and I have full confidence that his fans will be happy to take that journey with him. This is a franchise that has treated its supporters with respect while opening its arms to newcomers. Because of that, the weaker elements of the film feel unimportant in the wake of a genuinely entertaining time that will no doubt thrill audiences of all ages.” -Rachel Labonte,Screen Rant’s Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Review

The blue hedgehog even gathers the courage to call Tom his father, which is an adorable moment, and in the beginning and end ofSonic the Hedgehog 3, he happily spends time with his family while camping. It’s a shame Shadow doesn’t join the family at the end ofSonic the Hedgehog 3, but at least Tom survives the hedgehog’s brutal attack.

6Tom Gives Sonic A Parental Speech

Sonic And Tom Quickly Become A Father-Son Duo

Sonic calling Tom Dadis so heartwarming, but even before this moment inSonic the Hedgehog 2, James Marsden’s character often takes on a parental role in the alien’s life. While Tom’s speech in the first film is directed to Robotnik rather than Sonic, and he calls the hedgehog a “friend,” his emotional words are rife with fatherly energy.

Tom and Sonic’s fishing trip inSonic the Hedgehog 2also includes a heartfelt father-son conversation, in whichSonic learns about how being a hero means taking responsibility for othersand that he needs to stop damaging the town around him. This life lesson is something Sonic takes into the third movie, too.

One of the greatest things about Tom’s character is that although he becomes Sonic’s father, he doesn’t make him forget about his past.

InSonic the Hedgehog 3, the titular character not only keeps Tom’s words about being a hero in mind, buthis father also teaches him to remember who he truly is. One of the greatest things about Tom’s character is that although he becomes Sonic’s father, he doesn’t make him forget about his past. When Sonic dwells on the loss of Longclaw, Tom isn’t offended at the mention of his mother figure, and instead encourages him to remember that she is always with him, in his heart.

5Agent Stone Is Sweet On Robotnik

Is It Love, Or Simply Admiration?

The relationship between Robotnik and his loyal companion, Agent Stone, is hilarious and wild. There are so many moments between the pair that make the definition of their connection complicated, however. Robotnik is quite aggressive toward Stone in the first film, despite the assistant’s constant awe and admiration of the crazed villain.

As the franchise progresses, though,it becomes more apparent that Stone’s feelings for Robotnik are more than just platonic.Despite the abuse Robotnik gives the agent, Stone never stops caring for him. Stone is always on standby with coffee, even though Robotnik absolutely doesn’t deserve it. Stone is over the moon at Robotnik’s return inSonic the Hedgehog 2, and he makes sure that the doctor’s latte with steamed goat’s milk is ready upon his arrival.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3’s Lee Majdoub Explains How Agent Stone Becomes A Third Wheel In His Dynamic With Robotnik

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 actor Lee Majdoub discusses his evolving relationship with Jim Carrey’s Robotnik in the wake of Gerald’s introduction.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s Stone subplot is surprisingly emotional, as he struggles with being pushed aside after Robotnik’s long-lost grandfather arrives on the scene. Robotnik’s final speech to the world as he saves the day, and thanks Stone for his support is gutting. Stone begging his boss to not go through with it is even more heartbreaking, though, especially as the agent realizes Robotnik appreciates him more than he believes.

4The Ending Teases The Arrival Of A New Character

Tails, Shadow, And Amy Rose All Appear In Credits Scenes

At the end of each film, a scene during the credits sets up the introduction of anotherSonic the Hedgehogvideo game characterin the following installment. InSonic the Hedgehog, Tails is tracking Sonic down using one of his devices; inSonic the Hedgehog 2, Shadow is seen in stasis, and the recentSonic the Hedgehog 3reveals the arrival of Amy Rose.

There are manywho could voice Amy Rose inSonic the Hedgehog 4, and her brief appearance is causing speculation over who will join the likes of Idris Elba and Ben Schwartz in theSoniccast. These credit scenes are a fantastic way for the franchise to set up the events of the next movie, while at the same time ensuring that the plot details aren’t spoiled.

With the release of each title, audiences hope that another credits scene will reveal which character will next join Team Sonic, and it’s delightful that theSonic the Hedgehogmovies continue this trend each time. There are severalSoniccharacters who are yet to make their debut in the Paramount series, so it’s always exciting to attempt to guess who might pop up in these scenes.

3Robotnik Gives An Unhinged Monologue To Himself

Jim Carrey’s Villain Often Rambles Out Loud

Robotnik’s rants are a brilliant part of his character, but it’s always even more enjoyable when he delivers a wacky monologue to himself. The villain is a fantastic example of the evil genius trope, especially when nobody else is around to listen to his ramblings. One ofRobotnik’s best moments inSonic the Hedgehogis in the end credits scene of the first film, when he acknowledges his loss of sanity on the Mushroom Planet while talking to a rock that resembles Stone.

This moment highlights just how unhinged Robotnik is, even without his powerful technology.Robotnik performs a similar monologue in the opening scenes ofSonic the Hedgehog 2, although his isolation across the eight months he is stuck on the planet makes it feel as if he has been ranting since the firstSonic the Hedgehogfilm’s ending.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3has a rating of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes.

However, Robotnik’s brief rant when he first appears inSonic the Hedgehog 3is possibly the funniest. His raggedy appearance, weight gain, and dirty surroundings makes his remarks about the telenovela characters’ family issues are comical, and it’s even funnier when he notices Stone and Team Sonic’s arrival, but he simply doesn’t seem to care.

2Ridiculous Dance Sequences

The Sonic Movies Love A Boogie Break

Throughout the three films, it’s not uncommon to spot moments in which the characters pull out a dance move or two. However, theSonic the Hedgehogmovies each include an entire dance sequence scene that often doesn’t add a lot to the story. Despite this, they are still hilarious to watch.

Robotnik dancing in his lab while investigating Sonic’s quill in the first movie is wild, and it’s ridiculous to see the villain prancing around by himself while conducting experiments. However, it’s not just the humans who enjoy a good dance in theSonic the Hedgehogfranchise.

Sonic and Tails’ dance battle inSonic the Hedgehog 2is a stupidly funny way for the pair to avoid being thrown on the fireby Siberian locals after their translation device fails, although the use of “Uptown Funk” is a little cringey. The best dance sequence by far isthe two Robotniks dancing together inSonic the Hedgehog 3. It’s comical to see the grandfather and grandson jumping into the routine anyway, as it’s such a strange thing to do while on a mission to steal the key, let alone the fact that it’s Jim Carrey dancing with himself.

1Robotnik Is “Defeated”

Sonic’s Villain Is Always Stopped, Only To Return, At Least For Now

Although audiences won’t find out whether Ivo Robotnik survives again untilSonic the Hedgehog 4, it wouldn’t be surprising, consideringthe villain disappears and returns in every other installment. In the first film, Sonic traps Robotnik on a faraway planet after a lengthy battle. It seems like Robotnik has no hope of escape, which is why it’s such a shock when Knuckles helps him and the pair turn up on Sonic’s doorstep in Green Hills inSonic the Hedgehog 2.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s Credit Scenes Explained

From new characters to spinoff potential, what do Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s after-credit scenes mean?

However,Robotnik survivingSonic the Hedgehog 2and returning in the next installment is slightly more unexpected. Robotnik is destroyed by Sonic, who uses the power of the Master Emerald to send him falling to his death, andSonic the Hedgehog 3doesn’t really explain how he comes back.

The return of Robotnik becomes more and more predictable in each film, but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, and it’s intriguing to figure out how theSonic the Hedgehogvillain somehow manages to keep coming back time and time again.

However, he redeems himself inSonic the Hedgehog 3’s endingwhen he sacrifices himself in order to stop his grandfather’s plan and save the Earth. The return of Robotnik becomes more and more predictable in each film, but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, and it’s intriguing to figure out how theSonic the Hedgehogvillain somehow manages to keep coming back time and time again.
