New concept art forAvatar: Fire and Ashappears to hint at a possible alliance between the villainous Quaritch and the new Na’vi antagonists. James Cameron has confirmed that the stories forthe upcomingAvatarmovieshave already been planned out, and while the Na’vi people have been the peaceful protagonists of the previous twoAvatarmovies, the upcoming sequel to the box-office record-breakingAvatar: The Way of Waterwill change the situation significantly.Avatar: Fire and Ashwill feature menacing Na’vi villains, who have the potential to ally with anyone, even a previous enemy.

The destructive Colonel Miles Quaritch was the originalAvatarmovie’s antagonist, determined to destroy the Na’vi home planet Pandora, in pursuit of “unobtanium”. Neytiri killed him at the end ofAvatar, butQuaritch returned inAvatar: The Way of Water, with his consciousness uploaded into a Na’vi avatar known as a Recombinant. Despite looking like a Na’vi, Quaritch kept his disdain for both the Na’vi people and the nature that they value, so he would seem to be the last person to ally with the Na’vi. However, it appears that inAvatar: Fire and Ash, Quaritch might do exactly that.

Avatar: Fire & Ash Concept Art Sets Up An Alliance Between Quaritch & The Fire Na’vi

Quaritch Joining The Fire Na’vi Could Make Both More Dangerous

TheAvatar: Fire and Ashconcept art shows Quaritch with his hands tied behind his back, being led into a village belonging to the fire Na’vi. Most of the Na’vi behind him have guns or ammo belts and seem used to carrying them, which suggests that they have already met soldiers and either defeated them and taken their weapons, or have allied with them. AsQuaritch is a persuasive character with combat skills, one way he could escape being their prisoner is to offer the Na’vi villains an alliance, which could end inan epic finalAvatarbattle.

The lifestyles and unique features of the fire Na’vi are still mysterious. That said, the concept art has shown a glimpse into their home in what appears to be a barren and ash-strewn landscape. A defining feature ofallAvatar’s Na’vi clansis their ability to adapt to life within their surroundings. This means thatthe fire Na’vi are likely to have specialist survival skills that Quaritch needs. Quaritch retained most of his memories and still has his combat and military training, so if Quaritch and the fire Na’vi share their skills and knowledge, both could become much more formidable.

Why The Fire Na’vi Might Want To Destroy Jake Sully & The Other Clans

A Threat From The Fire Na’vi May Give Quaritch A Redemption Arc

It has been suggested that the fire Na’vi could live in a volcanic area of Pandora, or one that is prone to wildfires. Another possibility is that their ashy home area is a former battlefield.Concept art shows that the fire Na’vi are ruthless, wearing the severed ponytails of other Na’vi, which suggests that they have a long history of conflict with other groups. If the fire Na’vi once lost their home in battle with other clans, even many years ago, this could lead to a long-running hatred of other Na’vi, including Jake and his clan.

Avatar 3’s Darkest Jake Theory Sets Up An Incredible Payoff 16 Years In The Making

Avatar: Fire and Ash may bring back a battle between Quaritch and Jake Sully that dates back to the original movie, thus changing everything.

One of the biggest underlying themes that the originalAvatarmovie set up is redemption, with Jake beginning as an antagonist before sympathizing with the Na’vi. Quaritch now lives in a Na’vi body, has a grudging respect for them, has bonded with an Ikran, and has a connection with his son,Spider, who grew up among the Na’vi and showed him mercy at the end ofAvatar: The Way of Water. If the fire Na’vi people threaten his son, it is possible thatQuaritch will join Jake Sully inAvatar: Fire and Ash, completing hisAvatarredemption arc.
