Summary

Baldur’s Gate 3has a lot of options for different endings, and some late-game decisions can lead to an ending for Gale that might indicateBaldur’s Gate is in for some serious trouble. Likeall of the Baldur’s Gate 3 companions, some key decisions determine how Gale’s story will end. Thanks tothe Netherese Orb in Gale’s chestthat could explode and kill him, these decisions also have some pretty high stakes.

Gale is also one of the characters players can choose to play as. Doing so opens up some unique interactions that players may miss if they decide to play as someone else or their custom character. Some interactions and choices players miss out on have to do with Gale’s Tressym, Tara. The cat-like creature appears in the game regardless of character choice, but she actually joins the camp in act one if players choose Gale as their origin. This can lead toa unique choice at the end of the game, which could spell trouble for Faerûn.

Turning Gale Into A God Gives Players The Choice To Make His Cat Hairless

This Choice Is Presented In The Game’s Epilogue When Playing As Gale

One possible ending for Gale involves himreforging the Crown of Karsusand becoming a new god. Players who choose Gale as their origin will then get to walk around as god Gale during the epilogue and see what other characters think of his new status. Tara is less than happy about Gale’s decision and his new godly form and will implore Gale to give up his, but she isn’t optimistic about her chances. This proves to be true as players have no option but to agree, but they can choose to make Tara hairless.

If they do, Tara will get angry and end the conversation. She also shuts down any further attempts by Gale to talk to her. While this just seems like a somewhat silly and chaotic option for players to take, it does hint at the type of god Gale intends to be. This small glimpse atthe use of his divinity could be a bad sign of his future plans.

Every Baldur’s Gate 3 Ending Explained (& What Choices Change It)

Baldur’s Gate 3 can end in a number of different ways, but the overarching plot will generally remain similar between different endings.

Gale Is Not Very Responsible With His God Powers

Although Gale’s choice to turn Tara hairless might seem like a simple — albeit mean-spirited - prank, it is alarming to see how flippant he is with his godly powers. Sure, Tara’s hair will grow back, but to react to her genuine concern by wordlessly transforming her really makes it seem likethe power has gone to Gale’s head. This isn’t the only sign that Gale might be a dangerous figure as a god. He is the God of Ambition, and it is made clear that Gale does not simply mean to help those who have noble intentions.

As the God of Ambition,Gale will be there for people with both good and evil ambitions. It is said that there are already temples being built in Gale’s honor in Thay, a region of the Forgotten Realms that is usually ruled by the evil lich Szass Tam. If Gale helps fuel Szass Tam’s ambitions, more people will be enslaved and forced to serve Thay. This, coupled with Gale’s seemingly flippant use of his powers, as evidenced by his transforming Tara, does not bode well for the future of Faerûn.

How Players Can Turn Gale Into A God

Players Have To Encourage Gale To Reforge The Crown of Karsus

Players who want to experience Gale’s godhood for themselves will have to make sure they are choosing the proper dialogue options to make it happen. When playing as a custom adventurer or someone other than Gale, players will first need toconvince Gale not to follow Mystra’s instruction to blow himself upusing the Netherese Orb. Once Gale is convinced to live, there are still a few different ways his story can end, so players will have to make sure they are setting him down the path to godhood.

When learning of the Crown of Karsus, Gale will express interest in finding it and using its power. Players will need to encourage Gale’s plans if they want him to ascend. They will also need to convince him not to reconcile with Mystra. Finally, players will need to make sure theydon’t turn Gale into a Mind Flayerif they choose to side with Prince Orpheus instead of the Emperor. When playing as Gale, players will essentially have to follow the same path, just choosing these options for themselves.

If players want to check to see which path Gale is currently considering, there is a somewhat morbid way to do so. Players can kill Gale and then usespeak with deadon him. If players ask him what he is trying to accomplish, Gale’s answers tell them which story outcome he is on track for. His dialogue and what it means can be seen in the table below.

If players want to give Tara a shave — which apparently over 2,000 did, according toBaldur’s Gate 3’sTwitter — they will need to make sure they choose Gale as their origin character. Otherwise, while players will be able to interact with Tara briefly, they will miss out on her unique interactions with Gale.Of course, players may decide after spending so much time as Gale that they want a slightly happier ending for him.

Gale’s Other Endings Are More Optimistic

Gale Doesn’t Lose His Humanity In Other Endings

Gale’s story is a classic want vs. need scenario. Gale wants the power to become a god. This is perhaps somewhat fueled by Gale wanting to be seen as an equal to Mystra during their relationship and also by his desire to rid himself of the orb. However, gaining godly powers doesn’t seem like the best option for giving Gale what he actually needs.

Gale can have the orb removed from him and be forgiven by Mystra if he chooses to return the Crown of Karsus to her. This gives Gale everything he needs without having to sacrifice his humanity for it. Gale is free to pursue a life he chooses, instead of lording over the ambitions of others simply for the power of it. In one of his good endings, Gale becomes a professor, still helping others achieve their ambitions, but without catering to evil-doers simply because they are ambitious.

Players can also choose to leave the Crown of Karsus in the river. Although Mystra won’t remove the orb from Gale’s chest, it will no longer pose a threat to him with the Crown destroyed. This ending still sees Gale moving on and coming to accept his place without feeling the need for power. What endingBaldur’s Gate 3players enjoy most will likely be subjective, but it’s safe to say Gale’s non-godly endings seem to give Gale more of a chance to grow and get over his past.
