One important NPC inBaldur’s Gate 3has the perfect opportunity to become a romance option, but they are still being ignored after all of Larian’s updates. With plenty of options among playable party members and some side companions, the romance mechanic is one of the most popular aspects of the narrative. There are still manyNPCs that players think should be romance options, but one character is often forgotten in these lineups. They play a strong role throughout the game if kept alive, and could make for a riveting romance choice that stretches the entire game.

The recent Patch 7 update came with many additions to the game, mainly introducingevil endings for origin charactersand modding support tools. But between adding more legendary actions in Honor Mode and cleaning up cinematics, there isstill yet to make additions for new romance options among existing characters. Larian Studios has fully ignored considerations for new options in updates, leaving players to speculate both who and if already known NPCs could become potential partners.

Falling In Love With A Leader Comes With Its Challenges

The leader of the Tiefling refugees and former Hellrider Commander Zevlor is a character who, if kept alive through the correct choices,is actively present throughout the game.Right when players meet Zevlor in Act 1, his leadership and loyalty to his people become clear and set him up as a determined personality. If Zevlor were to become a romance option in a futureBaldur’s Gate 3update, his deeper story and background could be revealed to players in a heartfelt and honorable romance path.

Players learn little about Zevlor and his past, and romancing him could allow him to open up more about it. He remains a loyal and valuable ally as the game progresses, but there is potential to dig a bit deeper with him. There would be a lot for him to open up about: the Fall of Elturel, his Hellriders oath, taking the responsibility of leading the refugees to safety, and the burden of perished allies he may be carrying. He could be similar to Halsin in a way, where the care and weight of a leader is present.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Gets New Act 3 Romance For Wyll Thanks To Modder

A passionate Baldur’s Gate 3 modder shares their elaborate add-on that provides Wyll with the romantic ending the Warlock deserved all along.

Zevlor has his priorities in protecting his fellow Tieflings, soa successful relationship with him would lead to players becoming part of that ambition. Impressing him and getting on his good side would include tasks like protecting the Grove in Act 1 and rescuing the imprisoned Tieflings in Act 2, choosing an honorable playthrough that embraces the charitable and the respectable. Zevlor would be a protective lover, which would be projected in any potential scenes that come with his romance path. He is also a Paladin with an oath, so expanding that aspect of him could flesh out his character.

Adding A Paladin Companion To An Already Full Roster

Considering both scenarios, it would depend on the direction Larian decides to take Zevlor’s romance if it were to ever seriously consider him as an option in the future. There is already a stacked roster of playable companion characters, including the six origin characters, Halsin, Minthara, Jaheria, and Minsc. They all already cover most of the classes, but having Zelvor as a playable Paladin companion would be an interesting addition. Considering how many in-party companions there are, it would be unsurprising if Zelvor was left as an unplayable romance character much like Mizora.

Similar to Halsin and Minthara, if Zevlor were to join the playable companion ensemble it would take certain circumstances. Taking his cause of helping the Tiefling refugees get to safety in Baldur’s Gate would have to take priority, and any defiance or ignorance of his goals would prevent him from joining the party. He would most likely permanently join the partyand assist players on their adventures once reaching the city in Act 3 after securing the safety of his people. Especially with a successful romance, Zelvor would choose to follow his lover after his goal is complete.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Romance Is Still Missing Some Key Aspects Of Intimacy

Relationships can be an engaging part of the Baldur’s Gate 3 experience, but they could still use a couple of tweaks to be at their best.

Having him as a companion would also give him a bigger role inthe epilogue scene added to tie up loose ends. Currently, with the addition from Patch 5,Zelvor only leaves a note for player in the gathering scene. If players decide to romance him, he would probably come along to reunite with the other companions and have some valuable dialogue about the final battle against the Netherbrain. With him not being tied to his Paladin oath by the end, implied in the note, there could be an implied future in the city with the player’s character.

Introducing Zelvor as a romance character is a thought-provoking consideration that Larian has the opportunity to take. With no updates to new potential romance candidates during any patches to the game so far, there is still a possibility existing NPCs could get and benefit from becoming options. Some ofBaldur’s Gate 3’smost complex and captivating characters are stretched via a romance path. Turning the Paladin Tiefling leader would make an excellent addition to the roster, both for a playable companion and partner.
