Cat Quest 3 Review: More Of The Same, Improved

Cat Quest 3, Pirates of the Purribean, adds pirate ships and more humor to the epic adventure of the series while continuing its overarching story.

How To Start ‘The Furlorn Fishercat’ Side Quest

Speak To The Grumpy Fishercat On Straits Island

To begin’The Furlorn Fishercat’Side Quest inCat Quest 3, players must get acquainted with the Grumpy Fishercat NPC, who can be found fishing on the beachside of an island beside his house on Straits Island. This area is north of Pawt Purvanna, but before interacting with him, you must first destroy the two nearby attacking Pi-rat ships.

Don’t worry, as these enemies are one-time encounters, meaning they won’t respawn.

Upon speaking with the Grumpy Fishercat, players must prove their worth bycompleting a mini-task assigned by the NPC, which officially initiates the start of the side quest. The task involves baiting a nearby catfish into a net. To make it easier for yourself, verify to stay close behind it so that you can push it forward until it enters the net, otherwise, it may veer off course, which can be frustrating.

After succeeding, speak to the Grumpy Fishercat again, to receive the Fishercat Hat as a reward. This accessory starts at Level 2, and adds 22 HP to your health bar, while also increasing damage to enemies within water by 15%. It is well worth equipping for your adventure in Cat Quest 3 until you find a better equipable item.

Where To Find All Legendary Catfish

Four Legendary Catfish

Following the reward received from the mini-task, the Grumpy Fishercat willsend players on an expedition, promising treasure in returnto catch all legendary catfish, similarly to how you caught the first one for practice.

Captain Cappey mentions that these catfish can befound all over the Purribean, including the northern region.100% Guideson YouTube provides a visual walkthrough on how to catch all four legendary catfish in their respective locations, detailed below:

Rock Catfish Location

In the middle part of thewest shore of Purranna, which is the largest region in the Purribean, you will find the Rock Catfish. Fortunately, it is not too far from Straits Island, where you first picked up the side quest.

While the path to the net is fairly straightforward, making it look easy to lure the catfish in, there is an environmental hazard that will damage you on impact, presenting a seemingly simple task to be more challenging. You will see many spiky pink conchs scattered around the shore, which never despawn. If you’re not careful, you may even bounce between them.

To safely direct the Rock Catfish into the net, you mustnavigate a carefully curated pathway that will keep you from hitting the conchs. Be mindful as these conchs can also damage the catfish, so try to create ample space when leading it into the net.

By safely making your way to the net and depositing the Rock Catfish into it, you will receive your first official reward for the side quest. TheLevel 6 Fishercat Attireadds 52 HP, while increasing damage by 15% against water-based enemies.

Lover Catfish Location

The second legendary Catfish in’The Furlorn Fishercat’Side Quest is the Lover Catfish, which can fittingly be caught south of the Lovepurr Islands, specifically on a smallnameless island east of Offspring Island. These islands are on the eastern side of the map, so players will need to venture slightly out of the way of the center mass region.

Players must yet again take on the Pi-rat ships, who havetrapped the Lover Catfish in a stream of water with a gate. Utilize your cannons to effectively deal with them as quickly as possible, saving the catfish who will then follow you around after.

This makes it easy for you to lure it straight into the net, securing your reward. You will then receive another Fishercat Hat, but an enhanced version at Level 9, providing +75 to your HP.

Cat Quest 3: Everything That Carries Over To New Game Plus & Mew Game Options Explained

There are plenty of reasons to keep playing Cat Quest 3 after beating the game, including seeing different endings and trying special challenges.

Ghost Catfish Location

Catching the Ghost Catfish is one of the more challenging endeavors in this side quest, especially for lower-level players. The enemies in this area are around level 60, so be ready to come well-equipped for added survival measures. Otherwise, if you carefully navigate the area for the sake of the side quest, you should be able to outrun opponents found here.

The Ghost Catfish is found on Furggy Island, in the southwest corner of the map, and catching the catfish entailsguiding it through a meandering stream through strips of sand, which are situated on the bottom-right side of the main island.

Furggy Island is a late-game zone, withPi-rats spawning as you guide the Ghost Catfisharound the zigzagging stream. While this may seem overwhelming to deal with while trying to guide and protect the catfish, make sure to keep moving and try your best to ignore them. They deal huge amounts of damage upon a hit, so it’s best not to get distracted and attempt to fight them, as it may cost you your life.

When you get the Ghost Catfish into the net, the treasure chest for your rewards will appear, but it won’t open as long as you’re still in combat. For those struggling, leave the area and return, to despawn the enemies. You may trigger the appearance of one Pi-rat, but this isn’t the worst scenario to deal with. Either way, the chest will still be there for you to open and collect your reward.

Sunset Catfish Location

The last of the legendary catfish can be found in the beautiful Sunset Islands, at the very north end of themap inCat Quest 3, recognizable by thelarge maze-like shaped land mass, made up of interconnecting sand strips separated by water.

As expected, similar to the Ghost Catfish task, you must guide the Sunset Catfish through the larger-scale maze, which may be easier to attempt while aboard your ship, rather than swimming. The Sunset Catfish will not follow players, so make sure to stay close behind it in case it veers away.

The worst that can happen is that the Sunset Catfish strays off to a dead-end of the maze, so you’ll easily be able to navigate your way across with some maneuvering and patience. Fortunately, although getting it to the net requires a longer route compared to catching the previous three legendary catfish, there are no other obstacleslike enemies getting in the way, as the Sunset Catfish is the soul entity that lives here.

With all four legendary catfish caught at the behest of the Grumpy Fishercat, you will receive your final reward for the side quest, The Son’s Rod, a gun (!). This is a Level 22 weaponthat deals 64 damage and shoots exploding baits that water-based enemies are vulnerable against.

With this side quest complete and the collection of new rewards in your inventory, you’ll be better equipped to take on harder areas, and eventually, thefinal boss inCat Quest 3.
