How Cobra Kai Season 6’s Major Death Will Impact Kreese In Final Episodes Teased By Co-Creator
Cobra Kaiseason 6 showrunners Josh Heald and Jon Hurwitz have different takes on what happened during Kreese’s prison escape. In one of the wilder developments for season 5 of Netflix’sKarate Kidsequel show, an incarcerated John Kreese improbably fled jail by faking his own death using Jello-O, then taking out a pair of guards with karate moves. Wearing a uniform stolen from a terrified coroner, Kreese strolled casually out of prison, resurfacing inCobra Kaiseason 6to join forces with Kim Da-Eun in re-establishing his villainous dojo.
Speaking exclusively toScreen Rant,Cobra Kaishowrunners Heald and Hurwitz discussed Kreese’s stunning prison escape, giving their differing takes on whether the villainous sensei actually killed the two guards and the medical examiner. Check out their remarks below:

Josh Heald: We knew it was going to be an adventure, choosing Kreese’s adventure for season 6 because last we saw him, he was killing a hospital doctor and murdering a couple of guards. [Laughs]
Jon Hurwitz: We don’t know that he murdered all those people. [Laughs]

What This Means For Cobra Kai Season 6
Kreese Is Headed For An Inevitable Showdown With Johnny Lawrence
Kreese was glimpsed only briefly inCobra Kaiseason 6 part 1, but is sure to be a bigger part of the action as part 2 returns to Netflix. Originally the series’ big bad, Kreese was eventually usurped by Terry Silver, who schemed to make Kreese disappear, but it seems Johnny Lawrence’s mentor is ready to take back the throne as the show’s true antagonist.
Season 6 part 2 is sure to pit Johnny against Kreese, and as his prison escape showed, Kreese is still as dangerous as ever. Johnny’s arc can seemingly only be completed if he resolves his conflict with Kreese, the man who derailed his life by teaching him the ruthless ways of Cobra Kai. Now that Johnny is in a better place, he must face down the demon that has haunted him since his childhood, but Kreese’s hold on Johnny will be very hard to break.
Our Take On Kreese’s Prison Escape
Kreese Is A Villain But He’s Not An Outright Monster
Cobra Kaiseason 5saw a significant uptick in violence, raising the stakes for all the characters involved, and opening up the possibility of tragic consequences. Kreese’s prison escape was indeed one of the more shocking and brutal developments in that season, but nothing in the scene itself indicates Kreese actually killed the coroner or either guard. Kreese is seen using karate to subdue the guards, and is not shown actually doing violence to the coroner, as the scene cuts away to him walking down the hallway in the coroner’s smock.
If it were confirmed that Kreese actually killed three people, the character would go from being a complicated villain to an outright monster, and any chance at redemption would be off the table.Cobra Kaimust leave open the possibility of Kreese seeing the error of his ways, so it’s likely that he only incapacitated his victims during his prison escape, and did not outright murder them. Going that dark would not fit with the show’s tone, which can sometimes get intense, but not that intense.
