The show even recreated Anakin’sClone Warsdesign and a young Ahsoka for a flashback sequence.
SinceAhsokaseason 1 ended withAnakin’s Force Ghostwatching Ahsoka from a distance, it’s been speculated that he will return forAhsokaseason 2. However, there are several other theories about characters who could appear in season 2, including a dark side user who may have summoned Baylan Skoll to Peridea. When these theories are combined, it reveals a horrifying possibility about who Anakin’s Force Ghost really was in theWorld Between Worlds. It also sets up a frightening outcome for this character to return and wreak havoc on theStar Warsuniverse.

Upcoming Star Wars Shows: Story, Casts & Everything We Know
Several exciting Star Wars TV shows are set to be released on Disney+ in the coming years from the realm of both live-action and animation.
Anakin Skywalker Behaved Oddly For A Force Ghost
They don’t normally have dark tendencies
The first clue indicating that Anakin Skywalker may not be who he seems is his odd behavior in the World Between Worlds. After all the mistakes he made in life, and the horrible things he did as Darth Vader,Anakin and Ahsoka had so many things they needed to talk about. They last saw each other when they fought on Malachor, where Vader would have killed Ahsoka if Ezra Bridger hadn’t pulled her into the World Between Worlds. The least Anakin could have done at that point was apologize, but he and Ahsoka barely acknowledged what happened between them.
Not only that, but he threw Ahsoka into a trial by fire, making her relive the past before embracing his Vader persona and attacking her.Force Ghosts are admittedly still mysterious inStar Wars, but becoming one is supposed to symbolize embracing the light and being one with the Force. The show presented this as Anakin doing what was needed to teach Ahsoka that she didn’t need to hold herself back out of fear of becoming like him. However, diving intoStar Warslore presents another explanation for why Anakin behaved so oddly when finally reunited with his Padawan.

What If Ahsoka Fought Abeloth, Not Anakin?
This would radically change the context and trajectory of the show
One of the most popularAhsokatheories suggests thatthe dark force calling Baylan Skoll to Peridea is Abeloth, a villain from theStar WarsLegends continuity.Abeloth once resided with the Force gods of Mortis and was known as the Mother, but since her family was immortal, she drank from the forbidden Font of Power and bathed in the Pool of Knowledge, corrupting her into a destructive dark side entity. The Mortis gods imprisoned her to protect the galaxy, but she eventually escaped and became an enemy of Luke Skywalker’s New Jedi Order.
Ahsokaalready set up a connection to the Mortis gods by having Baylan find statues of them. In theStar Wars: Fate of the Jediseries, Luke and his son Ben Skywalker visited a place called the Lake of Apparitions, where they communicated with the spirits of their fallen Jedi family members. However, they weren’t entirely sure if these were real, and this led to them confronting Abeloth.Ahsokamay have taken inspiration from this idea, which would meanAhsoka thought she saw Anakin but was really tested by Abelothto see how easily she could be corrupted or defeated.
Abeloth may eventually go after Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Order in canon, as she did in Legends.
The World Between Worlds Could Be Abeloth’s Prison
The Mortis gods may have put her there
While the origins of the World Between Worlds are unknown, there is a connection to the Mortis gods. Perhaps they constructed it not only as a way to travel space and time but also to imprison Abeloth, just as they constructed a prison for her in Legends. It may be the only place capable of containing her power, meaning she would need outside help to escape. With the portal on Lothol destroyed inStar Wars Rebelsseason 4,Peridea may be the only place Abeloth can exit the World Between Worlds, hence why she called Baylan to another galaxy.
This tactic and motivation would be in line with how the Mortis gods were portrayed inStar Wars: The Clone Warsseason 3. The Father trapped himself and his children, the Daughter and the Son, on Mortis to protect the galaxy from their power. However, when he learned that Anakin was the Chosen One, he brought him to Mortis to see it for himself. The Son then disguised himself to manipulate Anakin and Ahsoka, hoping to steal their ship and escape into the galaxy. Perhaps his mother is employing the same strategy on Baylan and Ahsoka to escape her prison.
Ahsoka Season 2 Is Setting Up Another World Between Worlds Showdown
Baylan Skoll found statues of the Mortis gods
Whether or not Abeloth impersonated Anakin Skywalker inAhsokaseason 1, season 2 will inevitably return to the World Between Worlds. There’s too much potential for a great story, with Baylan seeking the power to reshape the fate of the galaxy and Ahsoka looking for a way back home. With the connection to the Mortis gods, bringing in Abeloth makes sense, or at least a new character who would be her canon equivalent.Having Abeloth impersonating Anakin would also completely change the context ofAhsokaseason 1’s endingwith his Force Ghost watching her.
Perhaps the real Anakin will show up to save Ahsoka from his impostor, visually representing Anakin’s light side vanquishing his dark side for good.
Ahsokaseason 2 could feature a similar scene to Ezra and Ahsoka escaping the World Between Worlds inStar Wars Rebels. Just as Palpatine reached out to them to pull himself in,Abeloth could use Ahsoka or Sabine to escape, creating a breathtaking visual experience in live-action. Perhaps the real Anakin will show up to save Ahsoka from his impostor, visually representing Anakin’s light side vanquishing his dark side for good. Anakin Skywalker may not be what he seems inAhsoka, but either way, season 2 is full of possibilities for theStar Warsfranchise.
