WARNING: MINOR SPOILERS FOR ONE PIECE LIVE-ACTION SEASON 2
Much like the original story,Zorohad his share of challenging fights in Netflix’sOne Piece Live-Action, one of which saw the destruction of his pride and two swords, but a social media post teased a new weapon he’ll likely get inseason 2. The first season faithfully adapted the beginning of Eiichiro Oda’s beloved epic, and sneak peeks at the next season prove that the showrunners are continuing to stay close toOne Piece’s source material.
Warlord of the Sea andOne Piece’s greatest swordsman, Dracule Mihawk, wowed audiences with his displays of power and how flawlessly he dispatched Zoro in a fight that saw the former Pirate Hunter’s two of three swords destroyed. The Straw Hat’s First Mate barely survived the battle, but he continued to help fight against Arlong’s crew of Fish-Men. However, a post fromXuserakigawa_aonoprovides a convincingfirst look at a new katana resembling the one Zoro should get inOne Piece Live-Actionseason two.

Zoro’s New Sword, The Yubashiri, Has Been Sighted
The Yubashiri Debuted inOne PieceManga Chapter #97 & Episode #49 of the Anime
To the joy of mostOne Piecefans, season one of the live-action adaptation was a hit and earned the opportunity to continue with season two. The next adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, Zoro, and the soon-to-be-growing Straw Hat crew are currently filming in South Africa. Some eagle-eyed fans spotted anInstagrampost from the cast’s talented trainer,Lloyd Naichker, showing an image of a sword heavily resembling the katana Zoro receives in Loguetown, the next locationOne Piece’slive-action series is due to cover.
Before the post disappeared fromInstagram, the image was shared onXby the Makenyu (Zoro’s actor) fan accountakigawa_aono, with the katana unsheathed and lying across a dining table. Much like the sword Zoro receives in Loguetown, it features a black sheathe and gold ornate accent around the handle, exactly like the Yubashiri sword that becomes a part of the Three Sword Style user’s arsenal. The dedication ofshow’s production team to make the show faithful to the source material continues to give fans hope for its ongoing success.

The Sword Teases What’s Next For The Straw Hat Crew
One Piece’s Loguetown Arc Takes Place in Chapters #96 - #100 of the Manga, Episodes #45 - #53 of the Anime
Fans ofOne Piece’s manga and animeare familiar with the sort of trouble Luffy and the Straw Hat crew encounter after the crew comes together to rescue Nami and defeat Arlong. Judging by the features of the katana seen in the social media post, season two of Netflix’sOne Piece Live-Actionwill continue to be faithful because it resembles the same sword gifted to Zoro in Loguetown.
Even with his terrible sense of direction, Zoro finds a sword shop in the following established town the Straw Hat crew encounters before setting off for the entrance to the legendary Grand Line. In the anime, the seedy owner of the sword shop attempts to scare off the green-haired shopper with intimidating tales of cursed swords, a story that piques the interest of the Straw Hat, whose sights are set on becoming the world’s next greatest swordsman. What Zoro did next shocked the shop’s owner and earned him considerable respect and a surprising gift.
“…a positive hint that season two will also follow the path the manga established…”
While shopping for two swords, Zoro decides to test the potency of a cursed blade against his luck and, arguably, his own willpower. The gutsy swordsman threw the sword twirling into the air and outstretched his arm into the katana’s path, and the notoriously unlucky blade landed cleanly into the ground without shedding a single drop of Zoro’s blood.Inspired by Zoro’s achievement and guts, the shop owner gifted the cursed blade and the shop’s best sword, the Yubashiri, to the young Pirate that the owner could see was going to go places inOne Piece’s world.
What The Yubashiri Sword Means For Season 2
Zoro Still Wields the Katana his old Friend Kuina Once Held
Even thoughseason one of theOne Piece Live-Actionseriesdid deviate slightly from author Eiichiro Oda’s source material, it still managed to stay incredibly faithful to a lot of the story’s most important narrative beats. Seeing a tease of the Yubashiri is a positive hint that season two will also follow the path the manga established because it closely resembles the katana Zoro is supposed to get in the nextOne Piecearc, following where the live-action adaptation left off.
Several changes, like introducing a more prominent role of Vice Admiral Garp and removing the influence of the Don Krieg Pirates from the story, threatened the possibility that the live-action series would be too different from the original story that’s enraptured multiple generations of fans. However, most changes were made for the benefit of the live-action adaptation and arguably helped improve the series' pacing for the larger audience the series successfully attracted. Whileseason 2 will likely feature its own changes, a peak at the Yubashiri’s an encouraging sign that it won’t be completely different.
Season 2 Will Give Zoro’s New Sword Foes To Cut
One Piece Live-ActionSeason 2 will include Eight Episodes
The excitingcast announcements forOne Pieceseason 2have given fans experienced with source material a good idea of how far it will go into the long-running story’s plot. While the casting of roles like Robin and Crocodile had some fans expecting the next season would adapt the anticipated Alabasta arc, season two ofOne Piecewill conclude after the Drum Island arc. This final arc will introduce another fan-favorite character, a hopelessly adorable sentient reindeer named Tony Tony Chopper, a character who becomes something like an adopted son for Zoro.
Zoro surely has some exciting battles ahead of him whenOne Piecereleases sometime in 2025, and it would be an odd choice not to rearm the Three Sword Style user who’s become one of the most recognizable swordsmen in media worldwide. With Loguetown being the last stop before the Grand Line adventures begin, fans will likely see Zoro’s new Yubashiri sword in action in many of the action scenesOne Pieceseason two will undoubtedly offer.
