The Oscar Winner Plays A Journalist Who Is On The Ropes
In the upcoming psychological thriller,Blanchett plays the acclaimed journalist Catherine Ravenscroft. Building her reputation by revealing the transgressions and wrongdoings of other people, Ravenscoft’s situation begins to shift when she receives a novel from an unknown author that features her as the main character in a story that unravels her darkest secrets. According to the official synopsis, that puts Ravenscroft’s relationships at risk:
As Catherine races to uncover the writer’s true identity, she is forced to confront her past before it destroys her life and her relationships with her husband and their son Nicholas.

Along with Blanchett, theDisclaimercast includes Sacha Baron Cohen as Catherine’s husband Robert and Kodi Smit-McPhee as their son Nicholas.Kline, meanwhile, plays the man who publishes the mysterious novel. A co-production between Esperanto Filmoj and Anonymous Content, which hails from Apple Studios, the cast also features Lesley Manville, Louis Partridge, Leila George, and Hoyeon, with Indira Varma as the narrator. Blanchett also serves as executive producer, in addition to starring.
Cuarón, known for films likeY tu mamá tambiénandRoma, as well asHarry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,is also the writer behindDisclaimer.
Given the premise of a respected professional getting exposed,Disclaimermay call to mind Blanchett’s Oscar-nominated and widely lauded performance inthe Todd Field filmTár. But whereas that thriller centered on a main character who was largely in control until she wasn’t, the teaser for Cuarón’s Apple TV+ series points to something that could be even more unsteady.
