As PC players enjoy the recently released port ofFinal Fantasy 16,producer Naoki Yoshida wants Xbox fans to know that they shouldn’t give up hope. TheFinal Fantasyfranchise has long been associated with PlayStation, going back to the ground-breaking RPG that isFinal Fantasy 7. Square Enix has attempted to take the series farther afield by making nearly every game available on PC, but the next step inthe publisher’s multiplatform approachmust be Xbox, a console that has missed out on several of the most recent games.

Speaking during an interview withVideo Games on Sports Illustrated, Yoshida clarified thatthe development team behindFinal Fantasy 16wants to see the title come to Xbox Series X|Sas much as the fans:

Clive bears a despondent expression, his head downturned in a screenshot from Final Fantasy 16. Behind him, flames roar.

Of course we did announce the PC version of the game, so looking towards the Xbox version, we do want to release it on Xbox. But when it comes to the specifics such as when the game would be available and such, we are not in a position to be able to share anything. But of course, I want to say that it’s not as if there’s zero hope, and we very much do want to achieve that.So players should not give up in terms of their hopes.

No further details on the potential port were provided butone has to imagine that Square Enix is currently in the process of bringing the game over to Microsoft’s ecosystem.Final Fantasy 15is available for Xbox but neither title in theFinal Fantasy 7remake has made it onto the Series X|S.

Square Enix Is Making An Effort For Xbox

It Just Needs To Put In The Time

In early 2024,Square Enix confirmed that it was looking to broaden its horizons by embracing a more traditional multiplatform approachfor its games. The studio has long neglected Xbox, releasing most of its major franchises on PlayStation or Nintendo Switch before eventually bringing them to PC. While certain exclusivity deals were established forFinal Fantasy 7 RemakeandRebirth, one has to wonder how long such a contract was intended to last.

It seems obvious that bringingFinal Fantasygames to Xbox would open up an entirely new opportunity to generate revenue.Square Enix has already been making inroads on the console; It recently portedevery game in theFinal Fantasy Pixel Remastercollection to Series X|S and addedFinal Fantasy 14to Xbox Game Pass. While this is certainly a step in the right direction, consumers would prefer if more modern installments were also ported.
