Warning: Spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima, episode #17

Dragon Ball Daimahas finally delivered on something fans have been hoping for throughout its run so far by having Goku team up with his one-time adversaries, fulfilling a classicDragon Balltrope in the most satisfying way possible. The threat posed by Gomah has become so great that Goku is willing to accept whatever help he can get, even if that includes Arinsu’s Majins.

Of course, it wouldn’t beDragon Ballwithout Goku having to fight them first and earn their respect. Gokufaced off with Majin Duuin a one-on-one battle for the Dragon Balls, and got to experience the Majin’s power firsthand. Goku’s fight with Buu seemed to have given him the upper hand, at least initially, as he was somewhat familiar with how Duu moves, but Duu soon got in some surprises, such as attacking with the tentacle on his head. Their battle was interrupted, however, by the appearance of Gomah, which soon forced them to stop fighting each other and join forces.

A Common Enemy Can Unite Even Active Foes

Gomah’s power was on a whole other level from that put on by the other characters so far, something which Goku picked up on immediately. Vegeta, however, was not so perceptive, and quickly challenged Gomah himself, impatient after Goku took the fight against Duu. This backfired just as fast, however, as while Vegeta did some damage to the castle, Gomah emerged unscathed.Goku recognized his threat and ordered everyone to fight, prompting Piccolo, Supreme Kai, and Glorio to join in as well. That’s when Bulma made a plea to Arinsu: let the Majin fight Gomah at their side.

Arinsu was completely stunned by Gomah’s new power, realizing that even with the Dragon Balls, she couldn’t hope to defeat him. So, she agreed to send the two Majin into battle. With no one else around, Neva also took the opportunity to empower the Tamagami, giving him permission to fight as well. The three new warriors arrived in time to lend Goku some aid, but even together, their power was looking like it might pale in comparison to Gomah’s. Still, they bought Goku enough time to begin transforming into Super Saiyan 3, offering a power boost that could level the playing field.

What Lies In Store For Daima’s New Characters?

Daima’s Original Characters Are Now Goku’s Allies

Majin Kuu and Majin Duu have both been quite popularsince their respective introductions, particularly Kuu, who has proven to be quite affable and entertaining to watch. His relationship with his “brother” Duu has also been an endearing aspect of both characters, so some fans were not looking forward to the day when they might have to face Goku.Gomah’s interruption of Duu’s battle may have been the best possible outcome, giving Goku a chance to battle the Majin without sentencing him to defeat.

Goku, of course, has a long history of turning his adversaries into friends, going all the way back to Yamcha in the originalDragon Ball. Fighting side-by-side with former foes against a common enemy is one ofDragon Ball’s defining tropes, so it was something of a relief to see that applied even to magically created servants like Kuu and Duu. Tamagami Number One getting to join the fight was an unexpected twist as well. The Tamagami are only doing a job protecting the Dragon Balls, after all, and are neither evil nor good, so to break that neutrality was a major move on Neva’s part.

With Goku presumably taking center stage in the next episode in his Super Saiyan 3 form, it will be interesting to see what exactly happens with Kuu and Duu. Many fans still expect thatthe two Majin may fuse into a single, extra-powerful being, and that can’t be fully ruled out at this point, especially with Goku having dropped his bag of bugs, including the Join Bugs. Goku himself may yet find the bag, and he has a multitude of options for who to fuse with, should he decide to do so.

Regardless of how the fight pans out, it was great to see Goku fighting side-by-side with the Tamagami and Majins, proving that a common foe can bring together even the least likely as allies, at least inDragon Ball Daima. It’s hard to imagine Goku would kill the Majins after they’ve helped him, so it seems like, provided they can survive Gomah, the Majin may well live to see another day.
