AsGokuandVegetacontinue to master their Ultra forms, it’s becoming increasingly clear that few in theDragon Balluniverse can match their power — that is, until the arrival ofBlack Frieza, who took both of them out in one shot. However, a super-powered and cocky Frieza is nothing new inDragon Ball. Unless he’s learned from his past defeats, he’s likely to face another loss at the hands of Goku and Vegeta.
Goku and Vegeta aren’t the only warriors looking for ways to improve themselves. After suffering a string of humiliating defeats at the hands of Goku, Vegeta, and their allies,Frieza realized it was time to get seriousand elevate his abilities. Upon discovering a Hyperbolic Time Chamber, he seized the opportunity to devote himself to training longer than he ever did before. Following the equivalent of ten years of rigorous practice, Frieza achieved a monumental breakthrough – unlocking hisBlack Frieza form.

Although his exact power level in his new form remains unmeasured, it’s evident that Black Frieza surpasses his previous Golden Frieza iteration. In fact,Black Frieza may now be the universe’smost formidable force. Upon his return inDragon Ball SuperChapter #87, Black Freiza hardly broke a sweat when taking out the extremely powerful Gas. Moreover, soon after that, Black Frieza proceeded to beat down an ultra-powered Goku and Vegeta with little effort.
No Matter How Powerful He Becomes, Frieza Suffers From One Key Weakness
Frieza’s Physical Training Will Be Useless Unless He Increases His Mental Toughness
Goku and Vegeta’s shock at seeing Frieza again was only surpassed by their surprise at how easily Black Frieza dismissed their challenge against him. Indeed, despite achieving perhaps their peak fighting forms, Black Frieza simultaneously pummeled them into submission within seconds of his return. To make matters worse, instead of staying to continue the fight, Frieza then declared that he had more pressing matters but would eventually return to settle their longstanding rivalry.
While Goku and Vegeta should fear Black Frieza and his astonishing power upgrades, they can also find opportunity in the fact thatFrieza still exhibits his most vulnerable traits – specifically, his inflated ego and sense of entitlement. These flaws mask his deep-seated insecurity and poor self-awareness regarding his strengths and weaknesses. In other words, despite his unparalleled power and abilities, Frieza’s extreme self-absorption makes him susceptible to manipulation. He can be baited into situations where his powers are turned against him.

A prime example of Frieza’s vulnerability is Goku’s final confrontation with him on Namek inDragon BallChapter #81. Goku cleverly exploited Frieza’s arrogance to deceive him into overlooking the energy discs that had circled back and were heading straight for him. Although Frieza noticed at the last second, it was too late to dodge or avoid the discs, which sliced him in half. Notably, Goku even warned Frieza of his impending doom, but the tyrant’s inflated ego prevented him from heeding the warning from someone he deemed inferior.
Time After Time, Goku And Vegeta Have Proven They Know How To Provoke Frieza
This Fated Confrontation Will Be A Battle Of The Minds Too
This wasn’t the last time Frieza let his pride undermine his effectiveness. It happened again inDragon Ball Z: Resurrection of Fwhere Frieza, in his then-ultimate Golden form, lets his desire to crush Goku and Vegeta override the need to master the intricacies of his upgrade. As a result, while he was initially able to hold the upper hand against his two Saiyan opponents, once Goku and Vegeta realized that he was unable to fully harness the immense power of his new form, they found a way to beat him.
In all these situations, if Frieza had tempered his arrogance, his low opinion of his opponents, or his obsession with revenge against those who defeated him, he might have been able to“solve” his Goku and Vegeta problem early and permanently. Notably, Frieza’s history of making dramatic entrances, marked by threats of death and destruction, has more often than not culminated in his own demise or defeat.

While his new Black form suggests that this version of Frieza is his most powerful yet, there’s no evidence that his mindset has changed. However, ten years of training in solitude could also mean that Frieza had the time to work on his mind, besides his body. It will be interesting to see how this confrontation will play out, but if Frieza hasn’t overcome his chronic weakness,GokuandVegetastill have every opportunity to make theDragon Balluniverse a bit safer by finally ending theFriezathreat once and for all.
