Update 1.6 ofStardew Valleyintroduced a special series of items called trinkets. These eight equippable items - the basilisk paw, fairy box, frog egg, golden spur, ice rod, magic hair gel, magic quiver, and parrot egg - allgive unique benefits to the player. Trinkets can only be used afterplayers have achieved combat mastery, which unlocks a single slot for a trinket as well as a recipe for an anvil.

All trinkets inStardew Valleyare useful or fun in their own way, but some are far more useful in combat situations as players traverse through the Skull Caverns ormake their way through the Dangerous Mines. Trinkets can be found either in crates or barrels in the Mines, in the Skull Cavern and its treasure rooms, in the Quarry Mine, or dropped by slain monsters though thedrop rates are very small. For example, there’s only a 0.63% chance of finding a trinket in a Skull Cavern treasure chest which makes finding even one quite difficult.

8Magic Hair Gel Is The Least Useful Trinket

A Trinket With Style, But Not Much Else

Of all the trinkets, the magic hair gel is technically the least useful for gameplay asit is entirely cosmetic. When in use, the magic hair gel makes the player’s hair change color in the same way that other items with the prismatic dye effect do.This makes it possible to have an entirely prismatic look from head to toe! Using the magic hair gel is always fun to add some more color to the Farmer, though it doesn’t do much for combat.

Unlike the other trinkets, magic hair gel is not dropped from any enemies or found in the Skull Cavern treasure chests. It can only be bought from Alex’s shop at the Desert Festival, which runs from the 15th to the 17th of Spring.

7Golden Spur Has A Nice Speed Boost

A Small Speed Boost, Sometimes

The golden spur is a sometimes useful trinket that gives the playera boost of +1 speed whenever a critical strike landson an enemy. Unfortunately, it’s one of the less useful trinkets inStardew Valleysimply because there are so many consumables andrecipes inStardew Valleyto use when in the Mines or Skull Caverns, like pepper poppers and triple shot espresso, that give comparable speed boosts. Since players are only going to unlock trinkets later in gameplay, it’s likely that those consumables are already easily accessible, which putsthe golden spur lower on the listwhen ranking all trinkets.

6Parrot Egg Brings Additional Gold

A Pirate Companion That Brings Treasure

One of three trinkets to spawn a companion, the parrot egg hatches afriendly parrot who will cause enemies to sometimes drop gold coins, each worth 250g, when killed. Having a little bird friend to tag along with the Farmer through the Mine or Skull Caverns is very cute, but it doesn’t provide much help during combat.

10 Things To Do First When Stardew Valley 1.6 Comes To Consoles

Stardew Valley is finally bringing the massive 1.6 patch to consoles, which will allow these players to experience all of its changes and goodies.

Theadditional gold is also a nice benefit, but similar to the golden spur, this benefit has way less impact for late-game players since they’re more likely to already be flush with gold at this point. Important note is that the parrot cannot be harmed by enemies, which is relieving since players wouldn’t have to worry about protecting their birdie.

5Frog Egg Spawns A Companion In Stardew Valley 1.6

A Friend To Eat Up The Monsters

Like the parrot egg, the frog eggspawns in a frog companion to assist the playerwhen fighting monsters. The frog egg is slightly better in that it spawns in companion that directly helps in combat instead of helping the Farmer make more money. In fact, the frog simply eats any enemy wholethat gets too close. The frog is also a little more fun than the parrot in that it can be re-forged with the anvil to change its color.

Frogs can be blue, yellow, red, green, brown, blue-green, void, and prismatic!

Unfortunately, the frog can only eat one enemy at a time, and it takes about 12 seconds for it to digest before eating up another enemy. The frog will eat any enemy, even invulnerable ones, except for truffle crabs, prismatic slimes, and any of the players slimes in a slime hutch.

4Ice Rod Is A Helpful Trinket In Combat

Monsters Won’t Be So Hot-Headed

The ice rod is one of three trinkets that help in combat by directly impacting monsters. Itshoots out orbs of ice that freezes any monsters in its path, which makes the ice rod invaluable for fighting larger mobs of monsters all at once or just stopping more pesky monsters from being able to fight back. The rod fires every three to five seconds, but if re-forged on an anvil to a perfect ice rod, it will fire every three seconds and freeze enemies for four seconds.

A Helpful Fairy To Heal You

This trinket might be the most useful item for any players that aren’t great at combat. The fairy box spawns an incredibly helpful fairy that heals the player during combat. Like other trinkets, the fairy box has different levels which can be changed by re-forging it on an anvil. At level one, the fairy heals every 4.7 seconds with a healing power of 80%.

From there, the healing time and power goes up in intervals until level five which heals every 3.5 seconds at 120% healing power. Like the frog egg,the fairy box has multiple cosmetic variations. Sadly, the style of fairy is locked to each player in a save file, so it cannot be changed at the anvil in the same way as the frog egg.

2Magic Quiver Is Another Helpful Trinket For Combat

Archery On Command, Perfect Against Enemies

The magic quiver, like the ice rod, is a trinket that automatically strikes nearby monsters with a ranged attack. Instead of a ball of ice,the magic quiver shoots a magic arrow that hits the nearest monster to the player, while also damaging any other monsters in its path. What gives the magic quiver the edge over the ice rod as a ranged weapon is thatthe quiver has multiple types that can be changed by re-forging it on an anvil, though that change is random like all other trinkets.

1Basilisk Paw Is The Best Trinket In Stardew Valley

Immune To All Debuffs Except Tipsiness

The basilisk paw is the simplest trinket, but withthe biggest impact for any mining expedition. This little green claw makes the playerimmune to all debuffs, except for tipsiness. That means that players cannot be slowed, jinxed, frozen, or slimed by any monster as they fight through the Skull Caverns. While all the other trinkets (besides the magic hair gel) help the player improve their combat situation, the basilisk paw makes mowing through monsters a breezewhich is why it’s the best trinket inStardew Valley.
