Magik is the younger sister of X-Men hero Colossus, and infamously was kidnapped and raised inthe demonic dimension of Limboby the abusive demon Belasco, bestowing on Illyana not only intense trauma but alsoincredible magic abilities to go along with her mutant power.

Magikis written by Ashley Allen, who wroteX-Men: Blood Hunt - Magik, with art from Germán Peralta (Black Panther, Loki) including agorgeous new design for Illyana’s Darkchylde form, and will feature Magik embarking on amagical X-Men adventure in Alaskato protect mutantkind from monstrous demons.
The mystic mutant goes demon hunting in her own series! The X-Man Illyanna Rasputina strikes out on her own with new allies and dark powers arrayed against her. Something ancient has awakened beneath the Alaskan ice. Unfortunately for it, that’s Magik’s territory now!

Throughout the series, Magik will also be forced to come to terms with her tragic history and learn to control her demonic Darkchylde persona. After years of suppression, Illyana’s Darkchylde form returns from the depths of her tormented soul to offer her more strength and power, but at what cost?
Magik Will Finally Learn How To Embrace Her Inner Darkchylde
But will it cost her a piece of her soul?
The young mutant Magik has been through hell and back… literally… since her debut in 1975’sGiant-Size X-Men #1. From her traumatic tenure in Limbo to becoming a New Mutant, toher death duringInfernoand her eventual resurrection, Illyana has had her soul ripped from within her both figuratively and literally. Magik quickly rose in the ranks of X-Men heroes after her post-Infernoresurrection, using her incredible “stepping disc” mutant ability, nigh-indestructible Soulsword, and vast magical powers to support her X-Men peers in countless battles.
Magik’s New Powers Gives the X-Men a Weapon Even Better Than Telepathy
Illyana Rasputin has lived a life unlike any other, and her gifts extend beyond the X-Gene to make her a better tracker than any telepath alive.
Illyana’s Darkchylde form emerged duringInferno, where her corrupted soul turned her into a demonic entity, and she has largely suppressed this dark identity for many years, similar in some ways to Angel’s Archangel form. However,Magik’s upcoming solo series will finally see the incredible sorceress move past suppression into acceptance, learning how to control her Darkchylde persona for her personal advantage. But, what will this control cost her? In the past, Magik’s Darkchylde form has indicated a loss of control and identity, including the literal loss of bits of her soul, so Illyana will really need to contend with her past to be able to embrace the Darkchylde.

Illyana’s Magical Abilities Will Be Highlighted In New Series
Magik’s spell-casting side hasn’t been featured recently
Interestingly, Magik did confront much of her traumatic past in Limbo in the Krakoan Era’sNew Mutants, but trauma is not something that simply dissolves, so it is encouraging that she will continue to grow from her past. The newMagiksolo will see the hero facing a new demonic threat beneath the ice of Alaska, where the newest X-Men base is, fighting alongside surprising new allies. Thankfully, this new solo venture will allow Magik to flex her magical muscles, an exciting promise for fans of Illyana who have missed seeing the sorceress side of the iconic hero. When Magik was a New Mutant she would use spells often - like casting a powerful protective barrier inDemon Bear- so it will be exciting to see her utilize these skills prominently once again.
Magik is one of the most belovedX-Menheroes of all time, inspiring countless pieces of gorgeous fan art and epic cosplay, making it even stranger that Marvel has never given Illyana an ongoing solo series before. Finally, after 50 years, fans of the epic Illyana Rasputina will get to see their favorite mutant hero battle her demons, both internal and external, in a stunning new solo series.
