Anchoring an epic franchise of shows on CBS,FBIhas been one of the network’s most consistent hits, and has scored a season 8 renewal. Created by TV maven Dick Wolf and Craig Turk,FBIfollows the Special Agents of the New York City field office’s criminal division as they take on some of the biggest cases that the Big Apple can throw at them. Like most police procedurals,FBIrelies heavily on a case-per-week format, but never misses an opportunity to explore the personal lives of the large ensemble cast.
Like mostDick Wolf TV shows,FBIimmediately had spinoff potential, and the franchise was expanded intoFBI: Most WantedandFBI: International. Despite its expansive success, the flagship series is still the true heart of the franchise, and has been given special attention by CBS. The main series was gifted a three-year order from CBS in 2024. This takes the suspense out of the future of the popular police procedural, and the Special Agents ofFBIwill return for not only season 8, but season 9 as well.

FBI Season 8 Will Air Alongside A New Spinoff
The latest news aboutFBIseason 8 is thatthe flagship series will air alongside a new spinoffon the fallCBS 2025 TV schedule. WhileFBI: InternationalandFBI: Most Wantedboth came to an end, CBS did opt to green-light a new spinoff set in the same world ofFBI. Currently calledCIA, the series is set to focus on the relationship between the two agencies when working cases in the same area.
While there are currently no announcements about whether characters from the otherFBIseries could pop up inCIA,FBImainstayJeremy Sisto told Screen Ranthe would certainly be interested in appearing in the new spinoff. With the two series airing alongside one another, a crossover duringFBIseason 8 seems inevitable:

I’m hoping … that Jubal Valentine can help out the CIA situation. But you don’t know. We don’t know if it’ll happen. I don’t know if I’ll get the call. But Jubal would love it.

FBI Season 8 Is Confirmed
CBS Has Ordered 2 More Seasons
This decision guaranteesFBIthrough season 9, which will air during the 2026-2027 fall schedule (barring any industry-wide shutdowns).
Unlike many other network shows which find themselves on the hot seat every year, CBS settled the question ofFBI’s future in early 2024. Even asMost WantedandInternationalwere picked up for single season orders, the flagship show scored a three-season renewal all at once. This decision guaranteesFBIthrough season 9, which will air during the 2026-2027 fall schedule (barring any industry-wide shutdowns). As such,FBIseason 8 is already in the worksand there’s no question that the NYC Field Office will be back in action for fall 2025.

A three-season order is exceedingly rare, but it really comes as no surprise considering the overwhelming popularity of Dick Wolf’s shows. The legendary TV creator rarely misses, and he has especially found great success with police procedurals. As it stands now,the fate ofFBIbeyond season 9 isn’t settled, but there’s little doubt that the network will order at least one more seasononce the three-season order has run its course. Though the other series in the franchise are less certain,FBIis on a stable foundation that could see it stretch on for decades like Wolf’sLaw & Order.
FBIseason 7 premiered on July 07, 2025, and ended on August 16, 2025.

FBI Season 8 Cast Details
Which Agents Will Return For Season 8
Like mostlong-running procedurals, the cast ofFBIhas changed quite a few times during its near-decade on the air thus far. There were even a few changes going into season 7, andthat could suggest that season 8 will be a bit more stable in terms of cast swaps. Katherine Renee Kane left the show during season 7, and she won’t be on hand in season 8 to reprise her role as Special Agent Tiffany Wallace. Her replacement was meant to be newcomer Lisette Olivera as Syd Ortiz, but it was confirmed early that Olivera will not return for season 8 (viaDeadline).
On the other hand,it’s expected that stalwarts like Missy Peregrym will be back on hand in season 8as Special Agent Maggie Bell, alongside Jeremy Sisto as Assistant SAC Jubal Valentine. The rest of the NYC Field Office team is expected as well, and guest stars are employed throughout the season as well, though it’s impossible to guess who those will be at this early juncture.

Alana de la Garza
SAC Isobel Castille
Alana de la Garza’s role inFBIseason 8, however, remains unclear. In the final moments of season 7, her character’s life is put in jeopardy, leaving the series on a true cliffhanger until it returns for season 8. The cast has been tight-lipped about whether de la Garza will return, but Agent Castille did hint at her impending retirement in season 7. Even if her character survives to appear inFBIseason 8, it is possible the season will say goodbye to her.

More Explosive Cases For The NYC Field Office
Thefirst thing that season 8 ofFBIwill have to do is settle the season 7 cliffhanger. The season 8 finale saw the team dealing with thereality that Forefront had moles in the FBI. While they survived explosive devices in cell phones, the final moments of the episode saw Agent Castille begin slurring her words, collapsing, and having no pulse. While all of that would indicate a potential poisoning, the new season will have to clue fans into her fate before it can move on to new storylines.
If Agent Castille dies or decides to retire from the FBI as she has talked about in season 7, that would leave room to bring a new character in. Whether that ends up being a new supervisor for the team or a new rookie after one of the team members is promoted, that would certainly shake up the dynamic and give new perspectives on some of their investigations. The team will alsolikely be investigating the circumstances surrounding Castille’s collapse, which would give an initial arcfor the season.

It’s difficult to predict exactly what will happen inFBIseason 8 because the case-per-week format means that most episodes don’t connect to any others and are usually standalone. This leavesFBIseason 8 up in the air for now, though the series will likely be dealing with the fallout of Forefront’s infiltration of the organization for much of the season.
