Epic Games has added a new time control feature toFortnitethat is meant more for the parents than the players themselves.Fortnite’splayer base is predominantly young, and this new feature acknowledges this by giving parents more control over their kids' gaming habits.
Parents will now be able tolimit the amount of time their kids spend in-game, according to a post onEpic Games. The new time control system will also show parents an overview of how much time their child has played per day, allowing them to decide what is “too much.”

The time controls are connected to an online account, which means it can be synced between devices. Limits are enacted both on the main game as well as on theUnreal Editor for Fortnite(UEFN). Accounts with time restrictions will get a heads-up half an hour before their time runs out, so players won’t be blindsided mid-match. They’ll also have the option torequest additional time when their time is close to ending, which the parents can approve or deny at their discretion.
Why The Fortnite Time Limit and Reporting Feature Is So Important
Epic Games Is Placing Control In Parents' Hands
According to a report fromSaufter, more than 60% ofFortniteplayers are between the ages of 18 and 24.This percentage is only an approximation, though, since many kids likely lied about their age to be able to access the full game (kids under 13 have restricted access to the game).

You will have to wish the bus driver a happy birthday in Fortnite if you want to complete the seventh-anniversary quest and claim exclusive rewards.
By giving parents more control over how their children interact with the game, Epic Games is trying toposition itself as the parents' ally. This approach makes it harder for parents to write off the game entirely. Instead of telling kids they can’t playFortnite, kids can continue playing with restrictions, seemingly making it a win-win for all parties involved.

We Think Epic Games Found A Good Middle Ground For Fortnite
The Time Limit Is Flexible Enough
Fortnitealready has some parental controls, like theability to toggle voice chat, add new friends, and more. However, parents have been requesting the option to limit game time for a while now,and it’s great to see that Epic Games has finally implemented this feature. It appears as though the company was considerate of what parents need while still giving kids what they want.
For instance, the timer stops running if the game enters Sleep Mode or goes idle, preventing time from running out if the child leaves the game open but isn’t actively playing. The option to request more time is also a nice addition that encourages communication rather than control.
Fortnitehas consistently kept a player base of over 80 million users since 2021 (according toSaufter) and it consistently adds new andincreasingly awesome collaborations. The new time limits and reports feature is a good step for Epic Games, ensuring everyone directly involved with the title is taken into consideration.
