Fortnitehas had a lot of crossovers since its huge release back in 2017, and soon, players will be able to live out theirWalking Deaddreams, as the franchise’s infamous villain Negan (along with his trusty bat Lucille) and a new comic book visual effect are coming to the game. However, much more is coming than just a new character and weapon in this crossover, and fans and creators are going to have as much zombie content to enjoy as they could possibly sink their teeth into.
According toEpic Games,Negan will be available for purchase in the Fortnite Shop on April 4as a fully playable character, andFortnite Creativeusers can add him as an NPC to their maps beginning April 8. Lucille, Negan’s iconic barbed-wired bat, will also be added as a new weapon, and it will allow quick strikes, an overhead smash, and a baseball swing attack.

Additionally, a new Shiva Shotgun Ranged Weapon will be incorporated into the game. Along with Negan and these weapons, the crossover will also introduce a new comic book-inspired shader inFortnite Creative, which can give maps the famous black-and-white style ofThe Walking Deadcomics, and templates for a Walker NPC and a Prison Starter Island map.
This Is A Meaty Content Drop For Fortnite Creative
Starting today, players can start creating their own crossover Islands withThe Walking Deadassets using the Unreal Editor for Fortnite andFortnite Creative. Players will then be able topublish their ownThe Walking DeadIslands via the Creator Portal beginning May 16. As Epic Games describes,The Walking Deadassets could be used by players to make “role-playing survival RPGs, prison escape roguelikes, chaotic free-for-all shoot ‘em ups” and other types of experiences.
WhileFortnitecrossovers are nothing new, the newWalking Deadcontent should allow creators to craft some unique zombie fun, and this is a much bigger crossover than some previous ones, likeMariah Carey’s arrival inFortniteback in December.

Big Franchises Have Further Potential To Expand Through Fortnite
Fortnite Lets Players Mess Around In Other Fictional Worlds
ThisWalking Deadcrossover is more substantial than the majority ofFortnitecrossovers, but even some exposure, via a new character or in-game tool, allows for big franchises to get ever bigger.Mortal Kombat’sSub-Zero recently joinedFortniteas a playable character, andGundams came toFortnitein a similar Island experience late last year. Other massive franchises likeSaw,Halloween, andStreet Fighterhave also dipped their toes in theFortnitecrossover pool.
However, this significant update featuringThe Walking Deadshows that crossovers could be more than just skins and the occasional weapon. With the features thatFortnite Creativeprovides, the potential for big franchises to get even bigger through user-made creations seems virtually endless inFortnite.
