Waiting for the next installment ofFourth Wing,Onyx Storm, has been tough for me and all the fans of Rebecca Yarros' incredible fantasy series. After the cliffhanger about Xaden’s fate inIron Flame,it seems the next installment will dig even further into the secrets Xaden has been keepingfrom Violet. One of my favorite parts of the book is the romance between Violet and Xaden, as the building tension and opposing loyalties have made them a compelling fantasy couple. If there will be bonus content within the universe, I think it should focus on this story angle.
There are many theories about what theFourth Wingsecret projectmight be and how this will tie into the highly anticipated publication ofOnyx Storm.Yarros has released some bonus chapters, and they’ve tackled Xaden’s perspectiveon different parts ofFourth Wing, which has opened my eyes to his side of the story. It’s not always easy to trust Xaden, as the reader and Violet both know that there’s always something going on beneath the surface. However, if Yarros gives us insight into how his mind works, it would be just like another romantic fantasy series,Twilight.

Fourth Wing’s Secret Project Could Be Copying The Concept Of Twilight’s Midnight Sun
Stephanie Meyer’s bonus book was an enormous hit
Many years after the finalTwilightnovel was released, the author, Stephanie Meyer, gave readers what they had been waiting for. This came in the form ofMidnight Sun, the book that chronicles the events ofTwilightbut from Edward’s perspective.Since all the original novels gave us insight into what Bella was thinking, but never Edward, it was an exciting switch-up. After the explosive popularity ofMidnight Sun, I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that other romantasy authors learned from Meyer and decided to draw readers in with an unexpected companion book that delves into the love interests' minds.
While I think thatFourth Wingdoes a good job of building the relationship between Violet and Xaden, it was consistently infuriating not to know what Xaden was thinking.

Midnight Sungave Edward new book traitsthat opened up his character and helped smooth over some ofTwilight’s more confusing moments. While I think thatFourth Wingdoes a good job of building the relationship between Violet and Xaden, it was consistently infuriating not to know what Xaden was thinking. Of course, this was also part of the excitement, but now thatmost of the big plot twists revolving around Xaden have been revealed,I don’t see any harm in returning to the original story and finding out how hard it was to keep them under wraps.
I’m Sold On Xaden’s Version Of Fourth Wing After Rebecca Yarros' Bonus Chapters
It makes the most sense for a standalone book within the series
With the bonus chapters that Yarros has already released that tackle Xaden’s version ofFourth Wing,it’s clear that she’s begun writing this adaptation. Not only does it make the most narrative sense to touch upon Xaden’s deeper storylines rather than another character, but his point of view would be the most fun. Getting to hear more about how Violet infuriates and attracts him while he grapples with his divided loyalties makes for great drama. It would also be exciting to see how Xaden reacts to some of Violet’s biggest wins and losses, as her perspective is biased.
This New Romance Book Is The Perfect Fourth Wing Replacement To Read While Waiting For Onyx Storm
Rebecca Yarros has released another swoon-worthy contemporary romance that will serve as the best Fourth Wing replacement.
Additionally,Amazon’sFourth WingTV showwould have more context for the characterization of Xaden and an understanding of how he sees Violet. Whoever plays Xaden will struggle to find his depth and motivations without some literature that tackles his point of view. I trust that Yarros is aware of the demand for additional Xaden andFourth Wingcontent. Since it seems like his arc is going to be vastly altered inOynx Storm,it would be emotionally impactful to learn how he was grappling with his uncertain future while fighting for what he believed in and falling in love.

An Entire Book From Xaden’s Perspective Would Be Even Better Than Edward’s POV
Xaden has even more explosive secrets he’s concealing
I was shocked upon learning that Xaden had been becoming Venin inIron Flame, but that was far from the first time Violet and the reader were surprised by one of his secrets. His second signet threw me for a loop, and since I saw him through Violet’s eyes, he was never easy to read. When Bella experiences a big reveal about Edward, his identity as a vampire, this is a singular Earth-shattering event, and she already suspects it. If anything, getting Edward’s point of view on this only made him seem a little more unsettlingand unstable.
10 Onyx Storm Theories I Hope The Next Fourth Wing Book Confirms
There are so many theories about what could happen next in The Empyrean Series, but I hope Onyx Storm confirms these predictions when it debuts.
I know that Yarros' writing would make Xaden even more sympathetic and understandable with a book that’s told through his voice. Instead of just rehashing what readers already know, additional nuance and secrets would come from an Xaden POV, ensuring that the audience has enough information to be fully immersed inOnyx Storm. ThoughFourth Wingprovides plenty of clues and drops hints about Xaden’s complex experience, Yarros has left enough up to the imagination that readers everywhere would be shocked to find out just how deep the hidden elements of his personality go.
