A player ofThe Sims 4unintentionally brought about a painfully relatable moment by creating an especially ambitious Sim. Depending on mods, packs, characters, and gameplay approach,The Sims 4can either be a highly realistic simulationof life, ora supernatural romp full of vampires, werewolves, and plant people. But sometimes, its most realistic moments come about when the player isn’t even trying, as a Reddit user recently shared online.
Parentheticalboysposted a screenshot of one of their Sims on theSims 4subreddit that revealed lofty goals well beyond their means. The Sim’s most prominent aspiration reads, “Buy THE expensive violin,” and requires them to spend 10,000 Simoleons or more on a violin in Build Mode. However, the Sim only has seven Simoleons in their bank account at the time the screenshot was taken, suggesting they still have a long way to go. The caption simply reads, “girl, humble yourself,” suggesting even the player knows they won’t be affording that any time soon.

Players Relate To A Sim’s Expensive Aspirations
“Living Beyond Their Means”
Many players took the opportunity to relate to this overly ambitious Sim, wanting an item they’d likely never be able to afford. One player,Lopsided_Ninja_8391, went as far as to say, “I feel like that’s me as a sim - living beyond their means.” In the midst of pre-holiday shopping, not to mentiona fairly newSims 4expansion pack, many players could relate to the feeling of spending money they don’t have. Unfortunately, you may’t open a line of credit inThe Sims.
Other players, likeThusgirl, didn’t care how far off the goal seemed; they believed it’d be worth it in the end. Rather than just let the aspiration disappear over time, some users suggested pinning it so it’d remain in the back of the Sim’s mind, and could eventually be achieved when (or if) they’d saved up enough money.

Good things may come to those who wait, but that doesn’t mean the 10,000 Simoleon violin would be worth it. Other players, likeCalzoneCat, noticed another detail:the reward for completing this ambition was a paltry 50 points, hardly worth the years it’d take to save up the money, not to mention the pain of parting with it.
This is most likely an early-game Sim, who’s just spent their entire bank account on furniture to fill their starter home and land to put it on. They’re most likely in the early stages of their career, making very little money. If they’re going downthe Entertainer career track, as this ambition implies, they’re likely making as little as 920 Simoleons a week. (Although it’s more likely a direct consequence of their Mansion Baron aspiration, which requires them to own a high-value home.)It’d take them over two years to scrape together 10,000, and that’s not accounting for food or any other purchases they might need to make in the meantime.

With Sims 5 No Longer Coming, EA Needs To Finally Put The Sims On Switch
The Sims is one of the best life sim series, but somehow, Switch owners have missed out on it. It is about time EA finally fixed that oversight.
Our Take: Sims Are More Fun When We Can Relate
Sims Imitating Life
But as hard as this ambition might be to achieve, and as long as it may take to get there, if nothing else, this is one of those charmingSimsmoments a player couldn’t hope to orchestrate. It’s more fun when Sims reflect real life in one way or another. Whether it’s a Sim who looks exactly like you living the life you’ve always dreamed of, or simply one who wants things they can’t afford, those Sims are the ones who stick with you, and makeThe Sims 4worth coming back to year after year.
