Grand Theft Auto 6plans to introduce two protagonists to the story; Lucia and Jason. There is a distinct Bonnie and Clyde feelto the snippets of videos that have been shown, forecasting a tight bond between the pair. If the two characters are as close as it is suspected, Rockstar have set themselves up for a more memorable and emotional moment of treachery than any of ther games has included up to date.
Rockstar Games has a running themeof betrayal in its video games fromGrand Theft Auto: Vice CitytoRed Dead Redemption 2.Each game has a somewhat different take on how the betrayal unfolds and how personal it is for the protagonist.Grand Theft Auto 6has the chance to utilize what worked best in each game to create a masterfully crafted betrayal storyline that will hit the gamewith more emotional weight than any Rockstar production.

The Friendship From GTA: Vice City
Tommy Vercetti Trusted Lance Vance
Their business relationship may have been somewhat one-sided, with Tommy Vercetti doing most of the heavy lifting, but Tommy still carried Lance Vance to the top alongside him. That made Lance’s selling out of Tommy at the end, hit that much harder. Lance’s inability to accept being below someone else led to his reckless betrayal, andhe suffered consequences for it. What made the betrayal worse was their pair’s relationship.
Why Grand Theft Auto 6 Is Taking So Long to Make
There are reasons for Rockstar taking their sweet time with GTA 6.
Since Lucia and Jason are pretty much confirmed to be a couple, they are likely to have a stronger bond than Tommy and Lance. Rockstar can use the close relationship between the pair as the clincher for a betrayal between them. It is difficult to imagine from what is known that either Lucia or Jason would turn on each other, but with Rockstar’s expertise in crafting spectacular character arcs, this inclusion would make for the dramatic angle of the game’s crisis point.

The Difficult Choice of Grand Theft Auto 5
The Player is Given The Option On Their Characters' Fate
In the finale ofGrand Theft Auto 5, Franklin Clinton is given the option of betraying either Trevor Philips or Michael De Santa, or he can choose to band together with them on a suicide mission. The third option is generallyconsidered the canon ending of the game, but by having the choice tokill one of the other main protagonistsof the story, it gives the player the agency to completely alter the ending of the game in quite a substantial way.
GTA 6could certainly utilize choice in a betrayal storyline. It is not yet known exactly how Lucia and Jason will be playable, but if it is similar toGTA 5, where the player can switch whenever they want but still have missions for each character individually, then Rockstar couldgive Lucia or Jason the choice of betraying the other. This would allow players to have some differences in the story’s ending and also feel like they are not forced to demolish a possible powerhouse duo.

The Game Could Only End One Way
Red Dead Redemptionhas one of themost famous final scenes in video game history. John Martson’s last stand against the feds after doing their bidding was the most unexpected and foreshadowed event in the game. After wiping out the remnants of the Van Der Linde Gang, John hoped to live out his days on his ranch with his wife and son. The peaceful life was not meant to be, and John knew it. The game tells the player every step of the way that John was also on the list that needed to go alongside his former gang mates.
GTA 6 Hasn’t Been Delayed After All, Confirms Rockstar Parent Company
Rumors that GTA 6 will be delayed have been running rampant for some time now, but Rockstar parent company Take-Two has confirmed otherwise.
What made it so hard-hitting was its foreshadowing. IfGTA 6is going to follow the same themes of betrayal as nearly all its other games and use Lucia and Jason to portray it, the player needs to be told it is going to happen without them realizing it. As one of the couple turns on the other, the player should look back after the dust settles and say to themselves thata traitor in the duo was inevitable.

The Slow Decline Of The Gang Is Unmatched
Out of all of Rockstar’s games to date, none of them have a more powerful story than that of Arthur Morganand the Van Der Linde Gang inRed Dead Redemption 2. As Dutch van der Linde’s paranoia escalates and Micha Bell’s manipulations through his service to the feds cause the gang to rot from the inside out, Arthur attempts to keep the gang together. The betrayal of Arthur’s companions is expected but still affects the player as they desperately try and maintain some cohesion in the gang. It is a solidlesson forGTA 6to learn fromRDR2.
GTA 6’s possible betrayal narrative would not have the same effect if it occurred in the same slow-burn way asRDR2, but how it affects the other relationships around the two protagonists would certainly pull on the heartstrings. Seeing how crushing the dismantling of a longstanding due, even more so if they are love interests, can summon the same feelings the players had as they saw Arthur’s attempts at unity being completely destroyed by a toxic influence in his group.

Rockstar’s Themes Of Betrayal Are Important To Every Game
There Is More Realism When Treachery Is Involved
Betrayal can be observed in nearly every Rockstar game, even if it is not as big of a story beat as it is inGTA 5,RDR2,RDRandVice City.San Andreshad Big Smoke betray CJ due to blackmailing and his own desire for power.GTA 4’s Niko Bellic is betrayed in different ways by both Karen Daniels and Dimitri Rascalov. Without some sort of big betrayal, it is not really a Rockstar game.
GTA Online Finally Makes Game-Changing Fix & The Community Is Rejoicing
Grand Theft Auto: Online players rejoice because Rockstar has finally implemented a system that should significantly reduce the amount of cheaters.
This implies thatGrand Theft Auto 6will have a big plot point revolving around betrayal somewhere in the game. If Rockstar draws from their previous games, they have the opportunity to hit the players with the hardest, most emotional, both unexpected and inevitable betrayal inGTAhistory. Nothing would be more heart-wrenching than the Bonnie or Clyde-like protagoniststurning on each other at the 11th hour.
