Your Online Status Can Be Changed In The Chat Window

There are a few ways to appear offline on Steam. When not in a game, you can click on the“Friends & Chat” button on the bottom right-hand side of the Steam client. This button is present on all pages, be that the store, library, or anything else. Clicking this brings up the chat window and also shows the status of your Steam friends. If you are marked as online, this is where you will appear to your friends.

At the top of the chat window, you will see your username with your current status below it.Click the arrow next to it to open a dropdown menu with different status options. If you want to truly disconnect from all chat functions, you can click Offline. However, if you simply want to appear offline, you can click Invisible. This will show you offline to your friends, but you can still access chat functions if you’d like. It’s important to remember that, even if you’re just Invisible, your friends won’t be able to invite you to a game lobby.
