The iconic Marvel superheroWolverinehas lived many lives throughout his 50 years of publication history, including working with the X-Men, Alpha Flight, the Avengers, andThe Fantastic Four. However, the current illustrator forX-Men -Ryan Stegman - recently revealed a bold pitch he has for the mutant Logan:Becoming a part of the Asgardian mythos, alongside icons like Thor and Loki.

Wolverine isone of the most popular characters at Marvel, and there are countless stories featuring the adamantium-powered berserker, but Stegman’s pivot for Logan into becomingan Asgardian herois a novel, and exciting, vision for the beloved character.

Ryan Stegman (Absolute Carnage, King in Black) recently posted an epic illustration onInstagramof a futuristic Asgardian Wolverine, originally a variant cover forX Deaths of Wolverine#5, revealing a story idea featuringLogan proving his worth as a hero after being resurrected on Asgard by the Norns, following his death:

I have a pitch for a story for marvel that I haven’t had a ton of time to pursue so I drew it here. The general idea is that Wolverine dies at the beginning of the story. Then the Norns at the base Yggdrasil in Asgard get an urgent warning that they must resurrect this new spirit. But they look at this Logan character’s history and are like, “why this guy? From all we can tell he’s a bad guy”. But the entity that brings him insists that they must because he plays a huge role in the salvation of the entire multiverse. They finally agree to resurrect him in A bubble in Asgard in which they will put him through trials of heroism to prove he is worthy of resurrection. Will he make it? Well, I guess if I ever make the book we will find out 😂

Wolverine’s Asgardian Upgrade Is One Of His Most Epic

He has a lot to prove as a hero of Yggdrasil

Ryan Stegman’s design for Wolverine is not technically canon within the lore of Earth-616, but it was created for an official Marvel cover, meaning it is more official than fan art. Stegman said his assignment for the cover - inked by JP Mayer and colored by Marte Garcia - was to illustrate “a futuristic Wolverine.” Inspired by an idea he had for a Wolverine limited series,Stegman drew a futuristic Wolverine as a resurrected Asgardian hero, featuring circles on his updated costume reminiscent of Thor’s as well as a wild helmet that might pay homage to Cable’s evil future clone, Stryfe.

Thor’s Healing Factor is so Much More Epic Than Wolverine’s

While Wolverine’s healing factor is famous, Thor’s Asgardian blood was used by the Exiles to save a universe from a techno-zombie infection!

The pitch that Stegman proposed for his Asgardian Wolverine tale revolves around a future where Wolverine tragically perishes before the Norns are told that they must resurrect the hero if they want the Multiverse to survive. The Norns are three sisters - Urd, Skuld, and Verdandi - who live at the base of the World Tree, Yggdrasil, and control the fates of every living being within the Ten Realms. Surprised that Wolverine must be resurrected because of his violent past, they propose that he will only be fully revived if he can pass a series of trials that prove his heroism. While Wolverine may seem like a villain on paper - he has killed a lot of people -his values, actions, and beliefs tell a story of true heroism, and it seems clear that this new Asgardian Wolverine would be able to excel at whatever trials the Norns put before him.

One Of Wolverine’s Most Powerful Upgrades Gave Him Asgardian Claws

Odin bestowed the fires of Nidavellir on Logan

Ryan Stegman’s Asgardian Wolverine would not be the first time Logan was imbued with the power of the Norse Gods, having briefly gained an upgrade from Odin duringFear Itself. To battle The Serpent and its twisted Hammers, Odin bestowed the power of Asgard on many Earth heroes, including Wolverine. Not only did Logan get to don an epic Uru metal armor, but his claws also received a powerful upgrade, with Odin giving his adamantium claws the burning heat of the Dwarven forge Nidavellir. While the Asgardian armor and claws were removed after the heroes won the day, it remains one of Wolverine’s most epic upgrades!

Wolverine’s Strongest Armor is Made Out of the Same Metal as Mjolnir

Wolverine and the Avengers once got upgrades from Odin using the same metal from Thor’s hammer, leading Logan to become an armored hero.

Logan has had plenty of limited series that focus on past or future versions of himself, so it would not be surprising if one day Ryan Stegman’s pitch for an AsgardianWolverineeventually came to fruition, giving fans an epic glimpse into how Wolverine himself worthy of resurrection.
