Summary
I’m bummed out about how CBS handled a giantGhoststwist ahead of season 4. During San Diego Comic-Con, the series announced thatUtkarsh Ambudkar’s Jay would be able to see ghosts in season 4. I was shocked by the announcement. Jay’s wife, Sam, played by Rose McIver, can interact with the dead at the Woodstone Mansion. After inheriting the mansion, Sam falls down the staircase, leaving her with a bizarre connection to theghosts of the CBS series. Jay’s comedic inability to see ghosts where his wife can is the entire premise on which the series stands.
As much as the series centers on Sam’s unique ability, it relies on the comedic moments that come with Jay missing out on all the ghost action. While it would be gratifying for Jay to share Sam’s ability, his role in the series making a dramatic shift risks throwing off the show’s perfect comedic balance inGhostsseason 4. IfGhostswere to include a significant twist, I wish they would have handled it differently. Whether Jay’s ability to see ghosts pans out how I think it will, this one major letdown worsens the plot twist.

CBS' Ghosts: Every Ghost Time Period & Backstory Explained
The CBS sitcom Ghosts features eight characters who died during different historical periods. Here’s a guide to each one’s backstory and death.
Ghosts Should Have Saved Its Jay Twists In Season 4
Jay’s Ghost Twist Spoiled Ghosts Season 4
More than anything, I wishGhostshad waited to let its Jay twist play out. The news is a major spoiler, andI wish I hadn’t known this considerable plot twist going intoGhostsseason 4. Like many viewers, I enjoy the suspense and twists of any story. Jay’s new ability coming as a surprise would have been a real treat. Now, I will anticipate the moment that Jay can see ghosts rather than be thrillingly caught off-guard. It would have been a real mind-bender unveiled organically.
The series employed a similar tactic ahead ofGhostsseason 2, teasing that Jay would be able to see the dead in the show’s sophomore run.

Now that the series has released this update, I’m afraid that theGhosts season 4 twist is a fakeoutto garner attention. The series employed a similar tactic ahead ofGhostsseason 2, teasing that Jay would be able to see the dead in the show’s sophomore run. Instead, when season 2 aired, Jay’s ability to see the dead was just wishful thinking. After experiencing a life-threatening fall in theGhostsseason 1 finale, Jay hopes that he can see the dead due to the circumstances that had him knocking on death’s door, but it doesn’t pan out.
Ghosts Already Has A Dedicated Following
Ghostscould have waited to reveal Jay’s twist for a greater payout. The series has gained popularity and received many positive reviews in its first three seasons. There is no reason that fans will not return to the series just as excited about its fall premiere. The show could have focused on other exciting elements, likePatience the basement ghost, rather than revealing a massive twist that I, for one, didn’t want to know ahead of season 4. I would have tuned in to watchGhostsregardless, and knowing the twist is coming will change the experience.
