X-Men ‘97was one of the most surprisingMarvel Universeshows that has yet been released to Disney+, andI’m so happy that season 3 is already in production before season 2 has even been released.Continuing the story of the 1990s animatedX-Menseries, the new show brought back much of theX-Mencast, and told a story that ended with an exciting cliffhanger forX-Men ‘97season 2. With so many stories and interesting characters ahead, I can’t wait to see how the next two seasons of the show will work together.

Streaming series have had a difficult time releasing their shows consistently. While theMCU timelinehas expanded with all kinds of different shows in both live-action and animation,it has been rare that successive seasons for any of those programs have been released with any kind of consistency.Thankfully, it seems that production on shows likeDaredevil: Born Againhas set up for the shows to release more consistently, and that the third season ofX-Men ‘97is also following this same trajectory.

X-Men ‘97 Season 1 Was A Major Hit With Audiences

Audiences Loved The New Animated Series

Revisiting the characters and stories of the 1990s animated series,X-Men ‘97broke viewership recordsupon release. The premiere of the show hit 5 million views in its first 5 days, and the series currently holds a 99% positive score onRotten Tomatoes. Audiences and critics alike showed a great deal of enthusiasm for the show, and the viewership held strong through its first season run. This has made many very excited for the show’s return in 2026.

The first season ended with the X-Men characters being scattered across time, leaving behind manyquestions forX-Men ‘97season 2.With the tease of characters like Apocalypse and interesting concerns about Gambit’s fate, many have waited with bated breath for the show to return. What is very exciting about this, is it seems that the series has already become so beloved that the creatives behind it have been given additional room to tell even more stories, with a third season already in progress.

X-Men ‘97 Season 2 Is Set To Release In 2026

The wait forX-Men ‘97season 2 has already been difficult, but it is a relief to know that there may not be long gaps between future seasons. While the stories for season 2 will have much to explain,it is refreshing to know that the show has additional time and episodes, and will not need to rush to resolve its stories. There is a great deal left forX-Men ‘97to do in season 2, but the promise of a third season suggests that there will not be any rush to get through them.

The new show will be able to take its time, and to explore each of their stories with care and patience. With theX-Men ‘97timeline shaken updue to the events of season 1, there is much ground that was already trod in the 1990s series that could be revisited. This gives the show the opportunity to explore villains like Apocalypse with a new lens. This is an exciting promise, and I can’t wait to see how it is executed across multiple seasons.

How Being At Least Three Seasons Long Can Benefit X-Men ‘97

Too Many Marvel Shows Have Been Only One Or Two Seasons Long

TheMCU has not featured many showsthat have gone beyond one season, with some of even the rare exceptions likeLokionly going for two. This has been a unique approach to television that has worked for some series, and hasn’t worked for others. Still,it appears that Marvel is leaning into a more familiar approach to television in their future, with shows likeDaredevil: Born Againalready in production on season 2. The benefits of longer-running and more consistent programming can apply toX-Men ‘97as well.

Rather than having to focus on only one larger story, different looks at the beloved characters, including Rogue, Wolverine, Cyclops, and more, can be given greater focus.

Having more seasons means that characters can have more room to tell individual stories. With a large cast of X-Men characters, this is important. Rather than having to focus on only one larger story, different looks at the beloved characters, including Rogue, Wolverine, Cyclops, and more, can be given greater focus. With a larger runtime and more episodes, this world of the X-Men is allowed to be fleshed out, thereby aligning with the ongoing status of the many comic book titles these characters comprise.

I’m Convinced X-Men ‘97 Has Already Teased Its X-Men Replacement For Season 2

X-Men ‘97 ended on a major cliffhanger, but season 1 also appeared to set up some other teams forming in the highly anticipated season 2.

X-Men ‘97is still a ways away from returning for season 2, butI’m relieved that the show is already moving forward with a season 3.Perhaps the show could become a regular, recurring series, with new installments each year. With such great versions of these characters and such a strong creative team behind it,X-Men ‘97will likely only grow more important to the Marvel brand with each successive season. I can’t wait to see how these stories are used to make these characters even better.
