Melee attacks are a powerful tool inMarvel Rivals. Utilizing melee as a ranged Duelist or Strategist can help conserve ammo and finish off pesky enemies. Even as a primary melee hero, like Magick or Black Panther, your quick melee attack may be significantly faster than your standard abilities, giving you an important speed advantage. When the enemy has already dived in, remember that your melee attacks might be the best means of taking them out.
By default,a quick melee attack can be performed with the V key on the PC or by clicking the right analog stick on both PlayStation and Xbox consoles. But adjusting this to a moreconvenient controller setupcan help your performance inMarvel Rivals. But, in the end, the most valuable attacks are normally the high-damage ones with longer cooldowns. Be sure not to accidentally unbind those when adjusting for the quick melee function.

Character Melee Combos And Hidden Effects
Not Every Hero Behaves The Same
Most importantly, no correlation exists between role and melee attacks inMarvel Rivals. Vanguards, Duelists, and Strategistsmight have single hits or full combo attacks. NetEase seems to have matched quick melee to aspects of all heroes' backstories, thoughnot all are comic accurate. For example, Mantis, who is a skilled martial artist on Earth-616, has an impressive combo for a healer.
“Why Is This A Thing?": Marvel Rivals Fan Discovers An Extremely Interesting Feature, But Most Agree It’s Necessary
One player discovers that Marvel Rivals has an annoying limit to avoiding teammates, forcing them to limit their usage of the list for a good reason.
Not all characters have special attacks when using the melee button inMarvel Rivals. A few melee characters simply use their basic ability when pressing V/right analog. This includes the likes of Wolverine and Thor, though their attacks are either very fast or powerful.

Effect
Standard melee ability
Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Iron Fist, Black Widow (Widow’s Bite Batons)

Characters have no unique animation for their melee attacks.
Single-Hit
Bruce Banner, Dr. Strange, Magneto, Magick, Black Panther, Storm, Scarlet Witch, Black Widow (Red Room Rifle), Dagger, Jeff the Land Shark, Rocket Raccoon
Hits only once, but possibly quicker than their normal attacks.

Two-Hits
Peni Parker, Punisher, Hela, Iron Man, Winter Soldier, Psylocke, Star-Lord, Cloak, Luna Snow, Adam Warlock
Can destroy projectiles, but not instant hit-scan attacks.

Loki
Deals double damage when behind the enemy.
Consider using the quick melee to follow up another close-range attack. As the Punisher, you may hit someone with your shotgun and then use the two-hit knife combo to finish them off. Venom and Groot might want to use their melee often, as their role as Vanguard results in them being in the thick of the fight inMarvel Rivals.
Melee attacks might also be helpful forgetting around forward shieldsused by Dr. Strange, Magneto, and Captain America. At such a close range, you might be able to either clip through the shield or hit at an angle that avoids the cover entirely. This doesn’t help with full-body shields like the one given byHulk to all his teammates inMarvel Rivals.

Get Back In The Fight A Little Faster
An interesting feature is that melee attacks have a higher priority over most other moves, allowing you tocancel animation locksinMarvel Rivals. The most notable use is shaving off the last half to two seconds of a reload animation, returning to the fight with ammunition restored. This is especially good forcharacters like Dr. Strange, who has a long reload animation for his basic shot.
you’re able to also use melee attacks to cancel the reload entirely. You won’t receive your ammo back, but it does allow you to defend yourself or follow with a new attack. This can be useful if you have reached zero ammo andMarvel Rivalsautomatically started the reload animation.

This trick doesn’t work for all characters, as it depends on their animation speed and when ammo is replenished on the HUD inMarvel Rivals. Someone like the Winter Soldier doesn’t get their ammo back until the animation is finished. And, of course, you never need to worry if your hero has infinite ammo, giving characters like Hawkeye and Peni Parker a major edge.
