There have been concerns that Marvel Studios’What If…?is coming to an end before exploring some of the best multiversal stories in theMCU, including one that there have been calls for since the animated series began. Jeffrey Wright’s enigmatic Watcher was confirmed to be returning for a third season ofWhat If…?in July 2022. Eight upcoming episodes will investigate new alternate worlds whenWhat If…?season 3 premieres on December 22, but the highly-anticipated third season is set to curiously bring the series to a close.

What If…?season 3 will introduce new versionsof Bucky Barnes' Winter Soldier, Shang-Chi, Agatha Harkness and Sam Wilson’s Captain America, among many others, while also catching up with Captain Carter and Kahhori, who teamed up inWhat If…?season 2’s epic finale. While it seems Marvel Studios will never run out of opportunities when devising ideas for the animated series, however,What If…?is still ending. It’s a shame some of the MCU’s most interesting stories won’t be explored, including one that many have wanted sinceWhat If…?was first announcedin April 2019.

Thanos coming through a portal in What If…?

Thanos Snapping Away The Other Half Of The Universe Would Have Been The Perfect What If…? Storyline

Thanos Wiped Out Half The Universe’s Population In Avengers: Infinity War

Variations on the title, “What If… The Other Half Had Been Snapped?,” have been a popular source of fan speculation and theories sinceWhat If…?began. This refers to the moment in which the Mad Titan,Thanos, snapped his fingersusing the completed Infinity Gauntlet inAvengers: Infinity War, causing half the population of the universe to be reduced to dust. Many want to know what would have happened had the other half of the universe been killed by Thanos, and this would have been the perfect storyline forWhat If…?.

What If…?has delivered twists on some of theMCU’s most memorable and iconic storylines, but Thanos snapping his fingers has been all but ignored. Steve Rogers' transformation into Captain America, Doctor Strange’s abuse of the Time Stone, Peter Quill’s Celestial origins and the formation of the Avengers have all been explored. It’s a shame that Thanos snapping his fingers - arguably the MCU’s most important event - hasn’t been included, as this could have been a funWhat If…?episode, and would have given fans exactly what they wanted.

What If Season 3 Trailer With Avengers Power Zord

Avengers: Endgame’s Blip May Never Have Been Reversed

Luckily, Thanos using theInfinity Stones inAvengers: Infinity Warleft the original six Avengers surviving, which allowed 2019’sAvengers: Endgameto wrap up many of their storylines in some pretty emotional ways.Had the other half been snapped, this wouldn’t have been possible, though it would likely mean that the likes of Tony Stark, Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff would still be in the MCU. That is, of course, if someone from the other group had worked out how to reverse the devastation caused by Thanos, and this may have been unlikely.

What If Season 3 Trailer Reveals Storm Wielding Mjolnir, An Avengers Power Zord & More Multiverse Mayhem

Disney+ debuts new footage for the final Marvel Studios TV show for 2024, as the What If…? season 3 trailer focuses on more multiverse Avengers.

Avengers: Endgamesaw Scott Lang return from the Quantum Realm with a plan to use time travel to acquire the Infinity Stones from the past to reverse Thanos' snap, and Tony Stark’s genius allowed this plan to go ahead. It’s unlikely anyone from the other team could have conceived using time travel, let alone working out how, so it’s possible the Blip would have lasted considerably longer than only five years. This would have had huge repercussions for the MCU, which would have been fantastic to explore inWhat If…?, but season 3 is ignoring this story yet again.
