Can Francis Ford Coppola’s Epic Sci-Fi Be Saved?

Using the traditional Hollywood formula,Megalopoliscould have been looking at a break-even point of at least $240 million, a figure it’s clearly very far short of.
What Megalopolis Means For Francis Ford Coppola’s Career & Future Movies
Francis Ford Coppola made the movie he wanted to make with Megalopolis — but its box office failure means it’ll be a lot tougher to make his next one.
In addition to a 46% critics' score onRotten Tomatoes,Megalopolis' audience score is a dismal 35%. This suggests thatthere wasn’t really any positive word-of-mouth present for the film’s theatrical run, and there is unlikely to be any at home. TheMegalopoliscastcould be a draw for home viewers, as could the film’s divisiveness and the big swings that Coppola takes. Our Take On Megalopolis' VOD Release
Coppola’s Latest Has The Ingredients To Become A Cult Classic
Megalopolisis a strange film, featuring odd performances, stilted dialogue, and some baffling story choices. Coupled with its financial failure, these elements make Coppola’s latest movie a potential cult classic candidate. It’s possible that opinions about the film will soften in the years ahead due to its idiosyncrasies and pure originality, especially as reboots and sequels continue to dominate the entertainment landscape.
IfMegalopolisdoes develop a cult following, however, it seemingly won’t be for some time. The film’s availability on VOD will help it become more widely seen, but its eventual release on streaming is what will really be needed to get it in front of more eyeballs. For now,Megalopolisremains a divisive and unsuccessful film by one of Hollywood’s most legendary filmmakers.
