One Piecesuccessfully followed up one of its best episodes to date with episode #1115, leaving a lot to be excited about withepisode #1116and beyond. Episode #1115 was another episode that added a lot to the story with great animation and clever expansions on the source material, and whenever the anime does something like that, it’s always great to see.

One Pieceepisode #1115 continued the fight between SWORD and the Blackbeard Pirates stemming fromGarp’s Galaxy Impact attack, with Garp now facing off against his former pupil, Kuzan. The battle was punctuated by an extended flashback to how Kuzan became a member of the Blackbeard Pirates in the first place, and because of that,Garp and Kuzan’s battle was as physically and emotionally tense as one could have expected.

What followed was also fun to watch, and while episode #1116 won’t immediately follow up on it, it’s sure to be great, nonetheless.

What Happened In One Piece Episode 1115?

Produced By Toei Animation; Directed By Nozomu Shishido

One Pieceepisode #1115, “The Marines Surprised! The Marine Headquarters' Former Admiral, Kuzan,” continued the flashback to Kuzan’s first meeting withBlackbeard of the Four Emperorsand the Blackbeard Pirates. Despite the tension of their initial meeting, Kuzan joined the Blackbeard Pirates for a drinking party, and he ended up getting along well with Blackbeard and the crew, as a whole. All of that led toBlackbeard asking Kuzan to join him so he could be free to live his life the way he wanted, something Kuzan ultimately agreed to.

Back in the present, Garp demanded that Kuzan let Koby and Hibari go and begged him to return to the Marines, but Kuzan refused and insisted that he was living his life the way he wanted. A fight immediately broke out between them, and while Kuzan tried using his Devil Fruit to freeze Garp in a block of ice, Garp powered through and broke out at every turn. Soon enough, Garp landed a massive hit on Kuzan that buried him in the ground, andthe last thing Kuzan saw was a look of sadness on Garp’s face.

Law’s hat, discared after his loss to Blackbeard

Following that, the story returned to Law’s fight with Blackbeard and revealed thatthe Blackbeard Pirates defeated Law with nary a scratch on them. Blackbeard gloated over his victory and contemplated usingLaw’s Ope Ope Fruitto become immortal, but before anything could happen, Bepo used an experimental drug Chopper gave him to turn into his Sulong form without needing a full moon. That gave Bepo enough power to beat back the Blackbeard Pirates and escape with Law, and while the rest of the crew was left behind, Bepo assured Law that they would survive as the narrator solidified their defeat.

One Piece Seemingly Kills A Major Theory About Kuzan’s Motives

As shocking as it was to see Kuzan join the Blackbeard Pirates after being depicted as a more heroic figure, it was easy to assume that he had some secret agenda in play, with him possibly being a double agent for the Marines. However, with how well Kuzan and Blackbeard got along,it feels far less likely that Kuzan infiltrated the Blackbeard Pirates as a double agent afterOne Pieceepisode #1115. It’s still too soon to make a definitive statement on Kuzan’s goals, but right now, it’s hard to see his turn to piracy as being illegitimate.

One Piece’s Anime Continues To Show Its Strengths With Episode 1115

One Pieceepisode #1115 wasn’t as flashy as its predecessor, but it had plenty of style, nonetheless. From start to finish,One Pieceepisode #1115 featured gorgeous and fluid animation and directionfor both the fight scenes and the scenes of people just interacting with one another, the scenes of the Blackbeard Pirates partying andGarp and Kuzan’s fightbeing the biggest standouts in that regard. Nozomu Shishido famously directed the first half of Luffy and Lucci’s rematch, and everything great about that episode is on full display in episode #1115.

What really made episode #1115 stand out, though, were the ways it expanded on the source material. Garp and Bepo’s fights were notably short in the corresponding manga chapter, but the anime did a lot to flesh them out with extra scenes, and for Garp and Kuzan’s fight, theOne Pieceanime did a great job of emphasizing how torn up Garp was over fighting Kuzanthrough Garp’s sad expressions and his vocal performance. One Pieceepisode #1115 was another episode that went above and beyond with its adaptation, and episode #1116 will hopefully be of similar high quality.
