Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Power Rangers Prime #1!When Zordon debuted inPower Rangerscontinuity, fans weren’t just introduced tothe leader of the Power Rangers, but the entire Eltarian race.Zordon is an alien from the planet Eltar, and was even a high-ranking Guardian of Eltar, making him a bona fide badass in his own right outside the Power Rangers. And more than anything, Zordon represented what the entire Eltarian race stood for: peace and heroism on a cosmic scale. But now,Power Rangershas changed Zordon’s entire species in a way fans never saw coming.

InPower Rangers Prime#1 by Melissa Flores and Michael Yg, the Power Rangers have been vanquished by the last villains anyone would have expected: the Eltarians. Decades before the events of this comic, the Eltarians come to Earth to help defend it against an invasion of deadly aliens, the Beast Brigade. The Eltarians even partnered with the Power Rangers, and together, they were successful in defeating the Beast Brigade and saving the world. Unfortunately, the Eltarians had other, less than altruistic reasons for coming to Earth.

The Eltarians quickly turned on the Power Rangers, killing them and anyone who stood to inherit their power. With the Power Rangers out of the way, there was no one who could stop the Eltarians from taking over the world. In just a few years' time, the Eltarian occupation of Planet Earth resulted in a complete global takeover, as the alien conquerors added Earth to their ever-growing coterie of planet colonies.

Zordon’s Species was Supposed to be Cosmic Heroes, Not Galactic Conquerors

Zordon - and, by extension, his entire species - was a pillar of heroism inPower Rangerscontinuity. Not only did his own actions as the leader of the Power Rangers prove that, but he made it clear that his entire species was committed to the good of the cosmos. Just as the Power Rangers protected the Earth from otherworldly evils, so too did the Eltarians protect the cosmos from unimaginable darkness.

Now, however, the Eltarians have become the very thing they swore to fight against inPower Rangerscanon. They are going around collecting planets, throwing them under their fascist control, and eliminating any threat to their power - even including the Power Rangers. The Eltarians no longer care about what is objectively good, they only care about their empire, and will destroy anything that stands in their way, good or bad. And, based on how fans were introduced to Zordon and his people, it’s fair to say that no one saw this coming.

Lord Zedd Proves Even Eltarians Can Fall to Corruption

Another character introduced in the early days ofPower Rangerscanon was Lord Zedd, a villain who stood as the main bad guy of the whole series (minus Dark Specter, of course). While Zordon represented all that was good inPower Rangers, Lord Zedd represented the antithesis. And, interestingly enough, bothZedd and Zordon are Eltarian. In fact, Zedd (when he went by Zophram) actually trained Zordon as a Guardian of Eltar. But, Zophram fell to corruption in pursuit of ultimate power, becoming the evil villain Lord Zedd. And now, the same thing has happened to the entire Eltarian population.

Power Rangers Just Tied Itself to a Hit ’90s Show Thanks to a Surprising Crossover

VR Troopers has always been a ‘sister series’ to Power Rangers, but now their lore is connecting, making the VR Troopers the Power Rangers' enemies.

Lord Zedd’s corruption may have teased the ultimate corruption of the entire Eltarian species, but it’s still shocking how far Zordon’s species has fallen since theirPower Rangersintroduction. Indeed, the Eltarians inPower Rangers Primecertainly took a turn from the ‘Mr. Floating Blue Head’ ‘90s fans came to know in the originalPower Rangersseries, cementing the fact thatPower Rangerschanged Zordon’s entire species in a way fans never saw coming.
