What Simu Liu’s Avengers: Doomsday Casting Announcement Response Means

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringsreleased five years ago, meaning it’s been quite some time since we saw Shang-Chi in live-action. Still,Liu’s solo film was one of the more well-received installments in Phase 4 and in The Multiverse Saga as a whole. That is why many fans have been wanting updates onShang-Chi 2and the character’s overall future inthe MCU timeline. Even if Liu’s response was brief, his comment is clearly also a sigh of relief that he can finally talk about coming back to the MCU as part ofAvengers: Doomsday.

Shang-Chi’s endingsuggested the character has strong ties to the multiverse; apparently his use of the Ten Rings sent a beacon across the dimensions. This had originally seemed to connect to Kang the Conqueror - some aspects of the power signature were reminiscent of Kang’s inAnt-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania- but Marvel pivoted after the decision to move away from Kang. It remains to be seen how Marvel will tie Shang-Chi in once again, but Liu’s return in theAvengers: Doomsdaycast announcement is certainly promising.
