Burt displays some mysterious behavior inSeveranceseason 2, having followed Irving’s outie around for many nights.Combined with Burt’s dialogue with Fields in episode 6, the show seems to hint that they are close to Lumonand may still be working for them in some way. It may even be possible that Fields is another member of the Eagan family, which would technically make Burt an Eagan as well.

Like many ofSeverance’s characters, Fields displays several quirks that have been seen among Lumon’s employees, as well as the Eagans. InSeveranceseason 2, episode 6, Fields presents himself as a cultured and devout Lutheran with some unconventional religious views about severance and its impact on the human soul. Such a character shares similarities with the highbrow members of the Eagan family, who follow a cult-like ideology centered around Lumon’s CEO, Kier Eagan (Marc Geller).
Severance Season 2’s New Intro Seemingly Confirms A Massive Dark Twist For Mark & Helly
After Severance season 2, episode 4, the show’s opening credits sequence seems to foreshadow a twist that will change Mark and Helly’s characters.
Also, someone who has worked for Lumon for as long as Burt could have developed a close relationship with the Eagan family. One of the Eagans could’ve even been Burt’s first Lumon partner, whom Fields brought up during his conversation with Irving. This relationship could’ve been how Burt met Fields, especially if the latter is another member of the Eagan family.

Fields & Burt Know Much More About Lumon’s Work Than They’re Letting On
Fields & Burt Hint At Some Dark Secrets When They Have Irving For Dinner
Moreover, Burt and Fields are clearly hiding something based on their dialogue during Irving’s visit in season 2, episode 6. Specifically, Fields mentions that Burt had been working for Lumon for 20 years, but the latter tries to brush that comment aside whenIrving points out that Lumon’s first severed office was opened 12 years ago. This exchange implies that Burt knowingly engaged in some shady activities as a Lumon employee before he became severed, and he is still trying to hide them.
Where Was Severance Filmed? All Locations Explained
Severance is famous for its gorgeous visuals and sets, having used many real-world locations in New York and New Jersey to bring this show to life.
Such immoral deeds could have been why Burt labels himself a “scoundrel"and claims his soul is damned to Hell when Irving visits. They may even be the reason for Burt’s nickname, “Attila,” as his actions from before he was severed may share the brutality displayed by Attila the Hun. Such wrongdoings could have also been what drove the guilty Burt to get his mind severed in the first place.

Fields Hasn’t Been Present Enough To Realistically Be An Eagan
It is possible that Fields is/was working atLumon inSeverance, given how big and secretive the company is. However, it doesn’t fully explain why he hasn’t been involved with Lumon on-screen so far. Additionally,Ms. Cobel (Patricia Arquette) has never brought up the fact that the husband of an Eagan is working for Lumonon the severed floor. She paid great attention to Helena (Britt Lower) when she was working in Macrodata Refinement as “Helly.” Logically, she would have kept a close eye on Burt if he was married to another Eagan.
Irving Actor John Turturro Promises Answers To His Severance Character’s Season 2 Quest: “He Knows Something”
John Turturro promises eventual answers about Irving’s mysterious quest in Severance season 2, teasing that his character “knows something.”
Likewise, since Fields presents himself as a Lutheran, his worship of Jesus Christ doesn’t fit with how the Eagans worship Kier as their messiah. Unless the latter integrated Christianity into their belief system in some way, Fields’s ideology doesn’t support the theory. All these holes make it unlikely that Fields is another Eagan, and for the sake of the show, it’s probably for the best. Through Helly,Severanceseason 1 already revealed one character was an Eagan in disguise and the fact that she was one made sense for her character. Reusing that twist with Fields in season 2 wouldn’t have the same shocking effect.

Whether or not Fields is part of the Eagan family, it seems like he and Burt are still working closely with them.
All in all, the sixth episode ofSeveranceseason 2 hints at some dark secrets about Burt and Fields' outies. Whether or not Fields is part of the Eagan family, it seems like he and Burt are still working closely with them. Mr. Drummond (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) was searching through Irving’s apartment while the latter was at dinner. This implies that Burt and Fields only invited Irving to their house to help Drummond, which could add another dark layer to Irving and Burt’s complex relationship.
