Summary

Suits’ running gag about Harvey and Mike being movie buffs accidentally predicted the upcomingSuits: L.A.spinoff. After the arguably perfectSuitsseason 9 ending, it is safe to say the show did not need to return. However, given thatSuitsbecame a streaming sensation in 2023 and broke all sorts of records, it was no surprise that the franchise returned. Instead of a revival or a reboot, the “Suitsuniverse” will continuewithSuits: L.A., a spinoff following different characters. Aaron Korsh, who created the original show, is also behind theSuitsLA spinoff.

This is not the first timeSuitsgets a spinoff, the first being theshort-livedPearsonseries. The difference is that, unlike the Jessica Pearson show,Suits: L.A.’s cast will consist of brand-new characters. Set on an entertainment law firm from Los Angeles,Suits: L.A.stars Stephen Amell as Ted Black, co-founder of Black Lane Law. Most of what has been revealed aboutSuits: L.A.’s story so far refers to the pilot, with the project recently being given a full series order at NBC.

Suits’ Countless Movie References Secretly Predicted Suits: L.A.’s Story

Mike And Harvey Would Reference Movies & Actors All The Time

Suits: L.A.’s Black Lane Law specializes in criminal and entertainment law, the latter of which can refer to all things talent, studio, intellectual property, and everything else that ties into the entertainment industry. WhileSuits: L.A.taking place on an entertainment law firm does not mean it will always deal with fictional actors and movie studios, it is curious thatSuitswill now dive into the behind-the-scenes of the industry considering all the references Harvey and Mike would make.Harvey and Mike’s shared love for movies was one of the reasons why they bondedso fast.

Suits’ lead characterswould reference movies and actors in almost every episode. The humor inSuitsoften came from its sharp, witty dialogue, and many of those conversations included movie references. From hilarious scenes to dramatic moments, I lost count of how many times Mike or Harvey quoted famous films during a conversation. This running gag was not limited to Mike Ross and Harvey Specter, though, as most characters on the show would also make references to movies and series.

Suits: L.A.’s Entertainment Law Firm Setting Makes A Lot Of Sense After Suits

Suits: L.A. Can Be Even More Meta About Movies & Shows

I should not be surprised that the newSuitsshow will use the entertainment industry as its backdrop given how Mike and Harvey were written in the original series. It will be interesting to seeSuits: L.A.play with meta references and storylines, which evenSuitswould do from time to time. For example,a couple of real celebrities appeared inSuitsas themselves, including Charles Barkley and Michael Phelps. That is not to mention Harvey’s countless references to his biggest client, Michael Jordan.

Suits: L.A.’s premiere date hasn’t been revealed yet.

Suits: L.A.’s pilot is already expected to be quite meta.Deadlinereported earlier this year thatJohn Amos will appear as a fictionalized version of himself inSuits: L.A., with him being a long-time client and friend of Ted Black. Likewise, Victoria Justice will play Dylan Pryor, who is described as a rising movie star. Given how clever and funny most ofSuits’ movie references were, I’m excited to see the behind-the-scenes aspect of Hollywood from the perspective ofSuits: L.A.’s characters.
