After the intense events ofThe Elusive Samuraiepisode #9, Tokiyuki returns to help Yorishige regain his divine powers in episode #10,with the various remedies deployed almost seeming like running absurd errands or giving him treats.This includes cooking eel for him, harvesting alpine leeks, and even creating an imitation shrine maiden out of straw, which causes a faux pas when Tokiyuki’s retainers envision what he’s up to with such a contraption. Ultimately, nothing is better than a proper source of divinity and a real shrine maiden, prompting Tokiyuki to seek water from a sacred spring on Mount Moriya.

In episode #10, Tokiyuki finds Shizuku, who shares the vision of sacred beasts gathered at the spring. This helps Tokiyuki understand people’s belief in the divine,and he embraces it as he spends the episode questioning how Yorishige is seen as a god.
When Tokiyuki reunites with Yorishige, he sees the point the priest is making, learning that this is among the last years that humans can interact with the divine, with Tokiyuki’s gifts for evasion hinted to be divine powers.
Meanwhile, the main villain ofThe Elusive Samurai,Takauji Ashikaga, continues to show his twisted and horrifying side, with his playful demeanor belying a dangerous narcissism. Tokiyuki Must Rescue an Allied Army in The Elusive Samurai Episode #11
AsThe Elusive Samuraiappears set to adapt the events of chapters #26-28 in episode #11, Tokiyuki will be tasked with rescuing a Suwa sect led by Hoshina Yasaburo. Hoshina’s army is fighting against the oppression of Kiyohara Shinano-no-kami, aka the Kokushi of Shinano, where they’re hopelessly pinned and doomed to die fighting.Tokiyuki’s task is simple: to unite them and help them retreat, deploying his elusive tactics, but the issue therein lies with Hoshina, who stubbornly wishes to have his army die gloriously in combat.
This turn of events shows thatThe Elusive Samuraiis set toconclude season 1 with the events of the Hoshina’s Rebellion Arc, easily the biggest battle for Tokiyuki. Instead of merely dealing with violent and oppressive lords surrounding Suwa territory, Tokiyuki must also deal with clashing samurai ideologies.
