After the release ofThe Matrix Resurrections,there was speculation among fans over whether a fifth installment would occur. However, in April 2024, Warner Bros. announced that another movie was officially in development. The news came nearly three years after the release of the previous film. While little is known aboutThe Matrix 5, it is confirmed to undergo a major behind-the-scenes change.
The Wachowski sisters will no longer be in directorial roles,passing the torch to Drew Goddard. Goddard had previously worked on projects such asBuffy the Vampire Slayer,The Martian,Daredevil, andThe Good Place. He is also slated to writeThe Matrix 5script, with Lana Wachowski on board as an executive producer.
The plot remains under wraps, but there are plenty of different directions for the film to take.
