Summary
I am thrilled that theScrubsshowrunner has promised to revive the show, and after a coy reunion in an Apple TV+ project, I’m even more excited about the sitcom’s return.Bill Lawrence confirmed he’s “Definitely going to” reviveScrubs, although he’s given no definitive timeline as to when. Regardless, that doesn’t stop me from getting hyped about seeing JD, Turk, and the rest of the Sacred Heart staff back on screens in the near future. To me,it seems as though Lawrence is warming up for the reunionwith his latest Apple TV+ show - and I’m here for it.
TheScrubsrevivalis looking promising, although it’s not yet been officially confirmed. It’s one of my favorite sitcoms of all time if not one of my most beloved shows overall - regardless of genre. There have been whispers about the show starting up again at various points through the years, but the rumors becoming a reality feel more likely now than they ever have before. That feeling of hope and excitement was doubled whenI learned aboutScrubs' leading man teaming up once again with his former showrunner.

Every Doctor In Scrubs, Ranked By Skill
The Doctors in Scrubs aren’t all equal, but their varying skill sets can place the characters in ranking order of how effective they are at their job.
Lawrence was Braff’s boss throughout all 9 seasons of Scrubs
Vince Vaughn leads theBad Monkeycast, with many of the other actors having less recognizable names. However, my eyes were drawn to one name in particular when researching potential guest stars. Zach Braff will make hisBad Monkeydebut in episode 3, “Nobody Said He Was Alvin Einstein.” While he does still act, I know from listening to hisFake Doctor, Real Friendspodcast that his focus is slowly drifting toward directing. As such, I’ve not seen him act much in recent years, soI can’t wait to see him back in a Bill Lawrence project.
I was already looking forward to Braff’sBad Monkeyepisodes, and now I’m impatiently waiting for a darker JD.

Zach Braff, who played Doctor John “JD” Dorian inall nine seasons ofScrubs, is credited as appearing in back-to-backBad Monkeyepisodes, and so will return for the fourth installment of the live-action adaptation of Carl Hiaasen’s 2013 novel. He’ll be playing Israel O’Peele. By a strange stroke of fate,O’Peele is in the same field as Braff’s famousScrubspersona. However, Lawrence toldIndependentthat O’Peele is a “Slightly different doctor” to JD, and is a disgraced, drug-addicted physician. I was already looking forward to Braff’sBad Monkeyepisodes, and now I’m impatiently waiting for a darker JD.
Braff has directed episodes of other Bill Lawrence Apple TV+ shows
Braff’s collaboration with theScrubsshowrunner didn’t end when the sitcom drew to a close in 2010. Since then, Lawrence has recruited Braff for two more of his Apple TV+ shows.2020 saw Braff step into the director’s chair forTed Lassoseason 1, episode 2, “Biscuits.” Having Braff direct such an early installment of the show is a great example of Lawrence’s confidence in Braff’s skills behind the camera. In fact, Braff did such a good job with “Biscuits” that the episode earned him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series.
The Braff/Lawrence reunion forBad Monkeyis special, as it restores the actor/showrunner dynamic fromScrubs.

Three years after “Biscuits,” Lawrence called upon Braff’s directing services again, asking him to directShrinkingseason 1, episode 8, “Boop.” The job had Braff in control of a show with huge names like Harrison Ford and Jason Segal.Braff directed 7 episodes ofScrubsduring his time on the show, which set him up perfectly for his future filmmaking career, and he partially has Lawrence to thank for these early opportunities.
Braff & Lawrence coming back together is a great start
Zach Braff and Bill Lawrence, while very important themselves, are only small pieces of the formula that made me fall in love withScrubs. I really like Lawrence’s Apple TV+ comedies, as they have a similar vibe to the medical sitcom. They all have the same ability to have me laughing one minute and then in the throes of devastation as the characters pull at my heartstrings. However,Braff coming back to star in a Lawrence-run show is a tantalizing previewof what is surelyScrubs' inevitable comeback - which is really what I’ve been waiting for while following Lawrence’s career.
Scrubs' Revival Must Overcome 1 Behind-The-Scenes Problem That Hurt Season 9
Showrunner Bill Lawrence’s promise of a Scrubs comeback needs to navigate a problem that’s arisen since the sitcom’s original ended in 2010.
I can only imagine the magic that will start to return once actors like Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Neil Flynn, and all the other key figures from the originalScrubscast start to come into the picture.Braff and Lawrence’s Apple TV+ team-up is brilliant news, but it’s just the beginning of what will hopefully be a full-blown reunion before I even realize what’s happening. For now, I’ve gotBad Monkeyto enjoy, and I fully intend to.
