Will Riddick 4 Reinvigorate The Franchise?
The Previous Chronicles Of Riddick Movies Have A Mixed Track Record
TheChronicles of Riddickfranchisehas, historically, excelled on home viewing platforms. 2000’sPitch Blackbecame something of a cult classic, leading toThe Chronicles of Riddickin 2004. Boasting a substantial estimated budget of $110 million, the sequel grossed only $115.9 million worldwide, meaning it didn’t break even at the box office. The third film didn’t arrive until nine years later and was made on a much smaller estimated budget of $38 million. That film ended up being a modest hit and grossing $98.3 million worldwide.

With theatrical interest in the franchise not being overly enthusiastic (and the critical responses tending to be mixed), it’s not surprising that a fourth film has taken so long to get off the ground. The premise of Riddick returning to his home planet where he faces off against a new enemy could suggest thatRiddick: Furyawill serve as something of a fresh start for the franchise. If no prior franchise knowledge is required for this new entry, it could end up bringing new fans on board.
Riddick’s Full Powers & Abilities Explained
Riddick’s night vision is well-known in The Chronicles of Riddick franchise, but there are other powers that come from being an Alpha Furyan.
Outside of theFast & Furiousfranchise, which is nearing its conclusion with theupcomingFast & Furious 11, Diesel hasn’t led a successful franchise in quite some time. Movies likeBloodshotandThe Last Witch Hunterweren’t successful critically or commercially, andit’s not clear how much of a draw Diesel alone will be to those who didn’t watch the previousChronicles of Riddickfilms. It remains to be seen howRiddick: Furyawill fare, but audiences, at the very least, are in for some desert action.
