Warning: There are spoilers ahead for Squid Game season 2.

One of the main questions heading intoSquid Gameseason 3 is what the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) will now do to Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae). The Front Man participates in the games as Player 001 and goes by the fake name of Oh Young-il in season 2. He seemingly forms a connection with Gi-hun and several otherSquid Gameplayersand works closely with them. The Front Man even joins Gi-hun’s rebellion against the guards and the games.

However, by theend ofSquid Gameseason 2, the Front Man brings a swift end to Gi-hun’s failed rebellion. After making Gi-hun believe that Player 001/Young-il is dead, the Front Man puts the mask back on and proceeds to kill Gi-hun’s friend, Park Jung-bae(Lee Seo-hwan) in front of him. Through thismajorSquid Gameseason 2 death, the Front Man has succeeded in bringing Gi-hun to his lowest point yet, which raises the question of what he will do next to prove Gi-hun wrong about the true nature of humanity.

The Front Man Might Just Force Gi-hun To Continue Playing The Games

It Is The Most Logical Course Of Action

Between the failed revolution andSquid Gameseason 2’s mid-credits sceneteasing a terrifying new giant doll, the Front Man seems to believe that the status quo has resumed, and that the games can now continue. Given these circumstances, the simplest course of action may simply be to throw Gi-hun back into the games. Gi-hun will have to keep playing while thinking that the rebellion he pushed for got his friend killed and got Young-il and many others killed as well.

Is Squid Game Season 2 Better Than Season 1?

With all episodes of Squid Game season 2 available to stream on Netflix, debate has begun about how the new season compares to its predecessor.

The Front Man will believe that he does not have to worry about Gi-hun causing any more problems as he will feel too devastated, and the other players will no longer want to listen to him. With more games in store, and Gi-hun being the protagonist, this is the most logical way to continue the story. Instead of seeing Gi-hun get finished off in the games, though, the Front Man will have to confront that Gi-hun’s spirit is not entirely broken, and that he will likely find a way to finally defeat the Front Man and to end the games.

The Front Man Could Make Gi-hun His Prisoner As The Games Resume

This Could Take Away Any Agency Gi-hun Feel He Has Left

Instead of punishing Gi-hun with the same games that all the other surviving players are participating in, the Front Man may want to torment his rival in a more unique way. This could take the form of the Front making Gi-hun his prisoner. At least in the games, Gi-hun can feel as though he has a certain degree of agency and that he is helping others. If Gi-hun is taken out of the games and made a prisoner, though, the Front Man will strip him of that agency.

If Gi-hun is a prisoner, this may make it more feasible for him to begin interacting with Park Gyu-young’sSquid Gamecharacter, Kang No-eul, who is a guard.

Squid Game VIPs wearing golden masks

Seeing Gi-hun as a helpless prisoner may be what brings the Front Man the most joy.Simply killing Gi-hun, or letting him die in the games may not be enough to satisfy the Front Man, who wants to see Gi-hun in a position where he is powerless. If Gi-hun is a prisoner, this may make it more feasible for him to begin interacting withPark Gyu-young’sSquid Gamecharacter, Kang No-eul, who is a guard. If Gi-hun and No-eul are able to form a genuine alliance, they might be able to form a more successful revolution against the Front Man and the guards.

The Front Man Might Have Gi-hun Watch And Engage With The Games

This Would Be Twisted, But Also Presents An Opportunity For Gi-hun

While the Front Man may not want Gi-hun to rejoin the games, just keeping him as a prisoner may be deemed as too passive of a punishment. Instead, Gi-hun could be forced to watch the games alongside the VIPs and understand how the competitions are even more dehumanizing than he realized. Even worse, the Front Man could force Gi-hun to engage with the games and make choices about which players should live or die. He could even force Gi-hun to choose between surviving players he worked closely with, including Kang Dae-ho (Kang Ha-neul) or the pregnant Kim Jun-hee (Jo Yu-ri).

The VIPs are not inSquid Gameseason 2.

As torturous as this would be,Gi-hun having to watch with the VIPs would make it more possible for him to destroy the games from the inside. The games are a global issue that extends far beyond South Korea. The VIPs are at the heart of why the games are able to exist and endure on an international level and must be stopped if the games are to end. Whatever the Front Man decides to do with Gi-hun inSquid Gameseason 3, it will likely be the villain’s undoing, and potentially the undoing of the games.
