Giulio waschosen specifically because of his useful Quirk, Neutralization. As the name suggests, it allows him to neutralize the Quirks of others. This ability to counterbalance others' Quirks was absolutely crucial in managing Anna’s Quirk, Overmodification, which caused her tremendous daily pain.
By touching Anna with his right arm,Giulio was able to counteract the effects of Anna’s Quirk. He spent every waking moment at her side, neutralizing her Quirk anytime it began to uncontrollably flare up. Since they spent so much time together, Anna and Giulio grew very close. Because of Giulio’s efforts, Anna was able to live a cheerful, relatively pain-free existence, knowing that anytime her Quirk plagued her, Giulio would be there to help. Tragedy struck when the Gollini family broke in and kidnapped Anna in order to take advantage ofher powerful Quirk, killing the other Scervinos and seriously injuring Giulio.

Whether another Quirk user can benefit from Overmodification depends on whether they are compatible with it, and not everyone is. If someone incompatible touches Anna, they will be knocked out and experience pain, receiving no positive enhancements to their own Quirk. Contrarily, when those who are compatible touch Anna,their Quirk will grow even more powerful than before, growing instantly into a supercharged version. The Gollini family were compatible with Anna’s Quirk, so they captured her to harness the girl’s unique ability for their own twisted schemes.

Giulio was integral in saving Anna, and his bold move proves how much he loves her. Horikoshi, the creator of the series,explained in an interviewhowcrucial Giulio and Anna’s relationship is to the storyand how it directly connects to the main conflict between Deku and Dark Might. Thankfully, after the fighting concluded, the pair received a fulfilling ending together. Giulio’s contract was over technically, since Anna was now Quirkless.
