Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from Will Trent season 3, episode 2, “Sunny-Side Up.”
Following the shockingWill Trentseason 2 finale, Angie Polaski has been trying to pick up the broken pieces of her life in season 3, which includes getting her job back (even though she shouldn’t).Angie was a detective with the APD (Atlanta Police Department)in the ABC police procedural series. She and her partner, Michael Ormewood, often worked homicide cases and would occasionally team up with GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigation) agents Will Trent and Faith Mitchell. However, that all changed when Will arrested her atthe end ofWill Trentseason 2.

In season 1, Angie covered up Lenny Broussard’s murder. Crystal, the teenage daughter of the woman Lenny was dating, murdered Lenny after he repeatedly abused her. Angie, one of Lenny’s victims, was there and doctored the scene to make it look like she killed him in self-defense. However, when Angie and the GBI discovered Crystal was the serial killer targeting pedophiles, the detective’s lies caught up to her. Will felt he had no choice but toarrest her for tampering with evidence and making false statements to the police, perhapspermanently ending Will and Angie’s relationship inWill Trent.
Angie Will Return To APD In Will Trent Season 3
Angie Makes An Impassioned Speech In Episode 2
WhenWill Trentseason 3 opens, it’s six months after Will arrestedAngie, who is free, thanks to a lenient judge. Then, in episode 2, Angie goes before a counsel to plead her case about why she should be allowed to resume her job as an APD detective. “[Will and Angie’s first meeting in season 3] is going to be tense. It’s really hard. They’re forced to have to be in front of each other. Angie ends up coming back on the force in APD. So, they end up having to work together, and it’s a really difficult thing … They never got to talk about what happened, what transpired, the reasons why. She has her feelings, and Will has his feelingsandhis reasons.”

Angie is, without a doubt, going to get her job back after the two-partWill Trentseason 3 premiere. The promo for episode 3 suggests she’s still working at her temporary security job, meaningAngie’s first day back with the APD might not come until episode 4.Will and Angie will reportedly reunite inWill Trentseason 3, episode 4, further implying she starts working as a detective again soon.
Angie Coming Back To Work Ignores Her Big Crimes
Angie Resuming Her Detective Work Is Highly Unrealistic
Even before theWill Trentseason 3 premiere, it was obvious thatAngie’s return to the force was inevitable. The writers would somehow find a way to get her job back. It’s a police procedural series, after all, and Angie is animportant character inWill Trent. Nevertheless, Angie resuming her detective work so soon is quite unrealistic and completely ignores how she used her badge to cover up a murder.
Angie’s Lack Of Love Interest In Will Trent Season 3 Is Bad For Her & Will’s Reconciliation Hopes
Will and Angie broke up at the end of the Will Trent season 2 finale, and the hope that they might get back together in season 3 is dwindling.
Yes, Angie had good intentions and simply wanted to protect Crystal, who was a victim like herself. However, even though Angie’s heart was in the right place, it doesn’t mean theWill Trentseason 3 charactershould be so easily excused from her crimes. She’s lucky she wasn’t even in jail for very long.Angie’s mistakes are just too big,and in real life, she would never be allowed to be a detective again. In the world ofWill Trent, though, Angie gets to return to the APD because she gave a moving speech about never letting her emotions affect her work again.

Why Will Trent Has No Choice But To Reinstate Angie
Will Trent Is A Police Procedural
The successful ABC TV series revolves around characters who work in law enforcement. So, it’s understandable why Angie gets her job back so soon inWill Trentseason 3. It’s mucheasier for the writers to construct Angie’s stories when she is in close proximity to the other charactersvia her work. Allowing Angie to be back on the force at the start ofWill Trentseason 3 is a cop-out, but it was going to happen one way or another because it needed to.

In the first two episodes ofWill Trentseason 3, Angie didn’t have much screen time. The show made it work with Ormewood visiting her at her new job in the gated community. However, it wasn’t the same as having the two partners work on a case together, which is likely whyWill Trentis reinstating Angie so early in season 3. Still, the writers could find a unique way for Angie to be a part of the story without rushing her back to the APD.
How Will Trent Season 3 Should Handle Angie’s Story
Angie’s Quick Return To The Force Is A Cop Out
Will Trentmakes it too easy for Angie to resume her workas an APD detective. She effortlessly avoids prison time and seemingly gets her job back because of an impassioned plea. Perhaps Angie still has some work to do in episode 3 to gain the trust of her superiors, like solving abigWill Trentseason 3 case. Even if that is true, Angie’s return remains too quick. It’s hasty, which cheapens her character arc and undoes the season 2 finale’s strong impact on the story.
ABC releases new episodes ofWill Trentseason 3 on Tuesdays at 8 pm ET.
Angie has done little to prove herself capable of being reinstated inWill Trentseason 3. She has remained sober and is dedicated to doing the right thing, but it’s hard to see any true development after only a handful of episodes. Instead, the writers should drag out Angie’s return to the force and truly make her earn it.In the meantime, she could serve as a consultant with the APD so that she can be involved with the cases. Ultimately, though, Angie’s quick return is lazy, despite the fact that her getting her job back was inevitable inWill Trent.
