The Taxonomist is still somewhat of an enigma, but Shinobi Shaw reveals that he knew Ty Haniver as a child and that the mysterious villain has become a recluse with a peculiar interest in mutated animals. This interest later became the catalyst for his horrifying experiments, with Psylocke initially encountering these horrors when she discovers John Jaycrow’s severed arm nailed to her door. Of the Taxonomist’s creatures, there are animals whose heads have been loosely stitched together and animals with cybernetic augmentations. Most ghastly,Psylocke witnesses his experiments on mutant infants.

The Taxonomist’s motives take a dark turn as it’s hinted that he intends to kidnap mutants like the X-Men to taxidermy them.

Not only has the taxonomist shown that he has a knack for designing morbid monstrosities that are part animal and part machine, but he has also been shown to be quite sly by accessing the X-Men’s base and using his signature mutated butterflies to spy on Psylocke and her team. It’s clear thatthe Taxonomist can create some truly dreadful yet competent weapons, making him an antagonist comparable to villains such as Mister Sinister. The Taxonomist Is Becoming One of the X-Men’s Most Macabre Villains Yet

This new villain and his abominable experiments on animals are undeniably nightmare-fueled horrors that cross a very dark line and are interestingly reminiscent of Mister Sinister’s brand of villainy. Moreover,Marvel’s mutants have been subjected to truly unspeakable atrocities, with this latest villain introducing a new level of macabre that makes Psylocke and the X-Men’s endless fight for mutant-kind all the more engrossing. Haniver’s plan to turn Psylocke into a mummified display of her hero legacy proves that the Taxonomist is a new villain worthy of being in the lineup for theX-Men’smost dastardly enemies.
